Personality Profile:
Major Akari Dano has shown through 20
years of excellent work that he was an ideal agent in
the B.S.N. Never have I seen a man more driven to
succeed in often tight and unforgiving environments.
Never have I met a more intelligent and resourceful
man and never have I ever met man who could so easily
throw everything he once knew behind him. Major Dano
has always been a great man; he always knew when to
play dumb and when to play it smart. He has always
been a cheery, curious fellow but always knows when to
be quick as a lion and as ferocious as a Klingon Targ.
What he lacked in compassion, he made up in motivation
and kindness… and his amazing honor and trust to those
around him.
-Major Yurri Joaa, B.S.N.
Personal History: Akari Dano, born at 6:22 A.M. on June 26th 2323 to the parents Mott and Avena Dano. Mott Dano was a modest man making a modest living running a privately funded elementary education complex and worked as the principal. Avena Dano was a political satirist who won fans on Bolarus but not in the Federation.
Like most children, Akari Dano had a perfectly normal childhood. It was happy, friendly, and practically uneventful. In fact nothing even significant happens until 2328 when Akari entered his father’s elementary school at the age of 5. The first two grades were a breeze for Akari and it soon became apparent that he was gifted. Unfortunately his parents did not have the financial backing to send their son to a private school so he was stuck in elementary school for the same amount of time as any other child. The only difference was that he had a 120 IQ by the age of
13.
Thankfully for Akari, Middle School and Sr. High School were blessings. He graduated as the Valedictorian from Antica Senior High School and had a GPA well over 5.0. The local colleges and Universities took full notice and offered him hundreds of full-paid scholarships. But there was only one school Akari would choose and that was Bolarus 9’s University for Gifted Individuals. While in College Akari switched his Major an insane 27 times. To name a few had majored in Opera, Theatre, Mathematics, Stellar-Cartography. In the end though Akari received a Doctorate Degree in Computer Science, a Masters Degree in Psychology, and a Masters Degree in Political Science. He also received certificates in Botany, History and Astronomy (and a 186 IQ).
Akari however, was bored with such petty subjects and wanted to do something far more interesting in life then become a Computer Engineer. In 2344 the Romulans attacked the USS Enterprise-C and a Klingon Outpost at Narendra III. Word spread that that both the Flagship of the Federation and the klingon Outpost were destroyed. The incident gave a spark to young Akari’s flame and he figured out what he wanted to do in life. Not command a Starship or join the federation, but to spy. The Romulans were known to have the best intelligence force in the Quadrant and it was apparent that the Romulans had used the Tal Shiar to predict Federation movement and destroy the Enterprise-C. He loved the thought so much that he even wrote a college term paper about it.
Two years later (2346), Akari got his first break. The Bolian Department of Security was in need a Computer Engineer. The young Dano jumped at the opportunity and was quickly noticed by the staff at the BDS. He worked for 2 years at the BDS and was paid enough so that he could provide additional money to his parents and his father’s school. During the same period, the BDS decided that Akari could one day be useful to them so they began training and preparing him for the future choice he would most certainly make.
That choice came in 2348 when Akari graduated from the University. He didn’t waste anytime making it. On the same day that he graduated Akari went to the BDS and applied for full recruitment. He was accepted within days and quickly began learning what it meant to become a spy. The program was rigorous and intense. He had already taken 2 years of the program when he had worked as an Engineer previously (2346-2348) but then he had to finish the last 4 years. You don’t become a spy overnight and there is much more to it then spying.
Akari learned Basic Training & Preparation, Intelligence Gathering, Interrogation, Cosmetic Surgery, Diplomatic Affairs, Economics and Field Medicine. Akari also learned two different mundane cover jobs and received his Bartending and Barbering Licenses. He was required to work in a semi-professional field for 1 year and not be caught. His superiors decided to put Akari at the Vulcan Embassy. He worked as an office clerk and successfully spied on the Vulcans for 1 whole year without being caught.
There was always more to do in training. They sent Akari and his comrades to every kind of environment under every kind of condition. Their one mission was to survive… and most of them did. They learned how to use and operate almost every type of weapon. They learned how to construct weapons made from nothing more than dirt and tree bark. They learned how to fly any class of ship and break any code. Akari had a distinctive advantage in this because he was a genius and did just happen to have Doctorate in Computer Science. But with years of testing and preparing finally over, Akari was ready to join the active professionals of the Bolian Spy Network when he graduated in 2351. He was awarded the rank of Second Lieutenant and started off working in BSN Head Quarters on Bolarus 9.
Over the next two years he would be promoted twice to First Lieutenant and then to full Lieutenant. Shortly after his second promotion and 30th Birthday, Akari finally got to do what he had only dreamed of… become an official spy of the Bolian government. So in 2353 he became a member of Special Ops Field Team Delta Omega Epsilon and would stay with same team for the rest of his espionage career.
Their first mission was to be a 3-year trip to search and chart the Romulan Star Empire. Akari went home before he left and said goodbye to his parents. He would see them only one more time. The trip through Romulan space was a rather simple one. In fact nothing happened. Bolians are accepted on almost every planet in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants because they don’t cause any trouble. They also make fantastic cosmetic surgeons and wonderful bartenders. Most empires didn’t care whether a Bolian is in their space or not. Only if the Bolians were working for the Federation did anyone ever have a problem. The Bolian Spy Net however was a totally separate agency, which the Federation still does not know exists.
Only two significant things happened in Romulan space during that time. One, Akari was promoted to Lt. Commander. Two, in the Devolin system, Admiral Eric Pressman crashed the USS Pegasus with its experimental Cloaking device. Unfortunately the Delta Omega Epsilon Team had left Romulan space 2 days before the crash. The Romulan mission gave Akari a chance to spread his wings a bit. They charted endless systems and anomalies. They visited Romulus itself and even had a picture taken in front of the Romulan Imperial senate building all the while posing as Wine dealers. This is where Akari’s extensive collection of alcohol began. He bought 12 cases of Romulan ale and dozens of other drinks from the many various destinations their star charting brought them.
Fortunately Delta Omega Epsilon never engaged in any kind of hand-to-hand combat. However they under took numerous undercover operations posing as diplomats, merchants, and mercenaries and even on the rare occasion as a woman. The Delta Omega Epsilon team consisted of 4 members: Akari Dano worked as the Chief Engineer. Yurri Joaa worked as the scout (he was also the rookie and had know Akari a few years before). Gao Fell worked as the field doctor and gunner and Captain Archon Berry was the Field Commander.
Delta Omega Epsilon had no official ship; they hitchhiked, infiltrated ships or hid in them and they even occasionally paid a normal fare. The Romulan missions were wonderful and they all loved Romulan space but their next extended mission would be much more difficult. It took place at home on Bolarus 9.
On Bolarus there was horrible political situation unfolding. The president of the Bolian people was to be overthrown by the ever-plotting ways of the Federation. The Bolians were not about to allow the Federation to overthrow their president. President Ajakar Dora was against Federation policy in the Cardassian wars and threatened to succeed from the Federation unless policy was changed. He had a lone daughter, Rea Dora who was long considered to be a political radical and supported her father in everyway. The Federation sent their special operations unit to eliminate the President and his daughter. The Bolian Spy Net took every precaution to avoid their assassinations and they were successful. However, something rather peculiar happened during the mess. Rea wanted a son but things for her had become complicated. She was guarded full time by regular federation operatives who would not dare lay a hand on her until her father was slain. So in an effort of defiance the Bolian Spy Network took action. Akari had his first personal mission. Provide Rea with a son. As fate would have it, Delta Omega Epsilon infiltrated the Bolian presidential office and disposed of the Federation guards. They abducted Rea (not that she minded) and took her to head quarters. Unfortunately for Rea, her body could not produce a child. It wasn’t her fault, it was
nature's. So Akari Dano offered to artificially inseminate another Bolian woman and Rea would have her child as her own. The plan worked perfectly except that Rea died of the Tarrelian plague a few months later and the Federation having learned of her death left the system and caused only minor political damage. Akari Dano’s son was named Noi by his mother. Akari never met Noi’s mother, rumor has it that she died after childbirth.
Akari was stuck with a son so gave the boy to his parents to raise. They accepted Noi with open arms and it was the last time that Akari would ever see his parents.
The Political situation was finally over and Akari was awarded the Bolian medal of sacrifice. He choose to leave his son and family behind for service and that is why he won such a medal. He was also promoted to Full Commander after the incident and was made CO of Delta Omega Epsilon. Commander Archon Berry retired and Delta Omega Epsilon was given a new Engineer by the name of Roe Yanic. They stayed another year on Bolarus but in 2360 Delta Omega Epsilon was off again, this time to the federation starship USS Rose.
The Rose was a fine ship (Excelsior Class) and it was based out of the Sirus Sector. The only reason why Delta Omega Epsilon was onboard was to investigate the disappearance of the U.S.S. Nherat (NCC-6034) a "Decker" class destroy. The federation logs its disappearance as unknown. The Bolians determined however that the ship had been sucked up into an artificial wormhole and left the Rose after 8 months of investigating. The team was then sent to Bajor to monitor the Cardassian occupation and provide intelligence on the conditions of the planet and its people to the Bolian government. The results were not pretty. Akari’s ill tolerance of Cardassians comes from what he saw hiding in the Decora Hills with the Bajoran resistance. It was not Delta Omega Epsilon’s mission to fight, but merely to observe. They did however supply food and power packs for the Bajoran resistance and Akari would meet a friend named Kira
Nerys.
After the there 6-month stint in Bajor, they headed to Vulcan for a two-week vacation. It was horribly hot and they would never return. Akari was promoted to Captain shortly thereafter and Delta Omega Epsilon was sent to Mizar III to assist the Mizarians in repelling their 5 invasion in the past 20 years. Mizarians of course are pacifists so it was the Bolians doing all of the fighting. Mizar just happened to be a major agricultural trading partner with Bolarus and Bolians had no interest in having it occupied by the rude and crude Chalna. Chalnaians are of course like a mix of Klingons and Nausicans. The only difference is they are far less intelligent and have no form of government. They were easily repelled thanks to basic military strategy. Delta Omega Epsilon would stay on Mizar III for another 4 months and had to hold off the 6th invasion. They did so with the help of the Federation military. They were then picked up by the USS Hood and did extensive study of all Federation systems onboard. They stole holographic technology, weapon modicifications and a few other things from their federation neighbors.
In early 2363 Delta Omega Epsilon left the Hood for the Klingon Cruiser Bortak-Merkta. They hid inside the Klingon vessel for 2 years and did extensive studies of the Klingons while they slept. Their HQ was inside the air vents and they lived and slept inside the various Jeffries tubes and other abandoned places no Klingon would even think to look.
After two years of service hiding from and studying
Klingons, Akari was promoted to Major. It was a grand achievement for him and his team became the top team. As it turns out there were only 3 teams in the Bolian Spy Network. They only employed some 60 individuals; most of them did their dirty work solo. There were 3 teams of 4. And no one from any other team knew the other. They could not even identify themselves had they met. The only way they could was by their team names. Dano’s of course was Delta Omega Epsilon; it was the 3rd team because it had 3 words. The first team was called Gamma and the second team was called Beta Alpha. Akari to this day has never met anyone from these two teams.
The Bolians were then sent back to the Romulan empire to sabotage a Romulan Bird of Prey along the neutral zone. It took them 4 months to get onboard the Warbird “Night Raven” (English translation of course) but they arrived thanks to a cargo ship. The Bolians had to move fast and did their air vent hiding routine before anyone even knew they were there. The mission was to destroy the “Night Raven” because it was the warbird responsible for arming a secret Romulan base near Galorndon Core. The Federation starship USS Nemesis was on the other side of the neutral zone at the time and the Bolians had a wonderful idea. They decided to give the Federation a heads up on how to track Romulan vessels. The Bolians blew out a coolant line along the Raven’s inner hull and as a result the Romulan ship briefly lost its hull integrity. The Cloaking device could not compensate for this integrity change because for how quickly it had occurred. As a result, the Nemesis picked up a Class M environment in the middle of space and quickly realized it to be a cloaked ship. The incident is now referred to as the “Open Door Phenomenon”.
A few hours later, the Romulan ship was a few hundred thousand kilometers from Galorndon core, so the Bolians figured that it was a good time to destroy the ship. They set off explosives and beamed down the Galorndon core. The Warbird blew to pieces and Bolians hijacked the next Romulan shuttle of the base, cloaked it and sent off to Ferenginar.
At the Ferengi home world, the Bolians sold their shuttle and cloaking device and made a fortune after extensive haggling. Akari took the opportunity to buy dozens of extremely rare wines and drinks for his collection and future business as a bartender. Their actual mission to Ferenginar was to steal back as much Bolian artifacts and money as they could find. They found plenty of them. In fact about ½ of the Bolian artifacts that were said to be lost forever actually turned out to be on Ferenginar.
After plenty or murders and crimes the Bolians had their merchandise back and returned it to the Bolian government. They hitched a ride on the USS Kyushu, but this turned out to be an awful mistake. Their mission was supposed to take them to Gorn space but they were diverted thanks to the Borg. Unfortunately for Delta Omega Epsilon the Kyushu was sent to fight in the battle of Wolf 359. After a very quick battle the Kyushu was blown to pieces and Akari’s team was forced to take refuge in escape pods. Federation ships picked up their pods and Delta Omega Epsilon was reunited.
Thankfully for the Bolians no one had died. In the Bolian Spy Net, when a member dies (only in battle) all members in his squad are forced to resign and spread out. This is supposed to be for the safety of the spies and for the safety of the credibility of the Bolian government. No one knew of the Bolian Spy Network’s existence except for a few very special people on Bolarus 9.
Delta Omega Epsilon hitched a ride on the Cardassian freighter Hamar en route to Bajor. Their mission was to assassinate a team of Cardassian Captains. Gul Dukat, Gul Ghrek, Gul Remor and Gul Heere. Unfortunately the mission did not go as planned. In fact it was Delta Omega Epsilon’s biggest failure. The assassination of Gul Heere was successful but after that the team ran into problems. They were caught by the Obsidian Order and its leader Enabran Tain. They were tortured extensively and almost killed. But luckily for them the Cardassians pulled out of Bajor and the Bajoran resistance freed the Bolian prisoners.
This was not the end of course. 3 Months after they were freed the Bolians continued their mission. They only located one of the 3 remaining Guls, Gul Remor and they marooned his vessel on Galorndon Core. Bolian operatives are still attempting to dispose of these Cardassians to this day. The Bolians did not go far for the next several assignments. They spent time on Bajor, Deep Space 9 and the Badlands and constantly researched the Bajoran wormhole. Akari Dano actually became the first Bolian ever to go to the Gamma quadrant compliments of a recon mission onboard a freighter.
The missions were only recon based and it was actually the first whole year in which the Bolians had not attempted sabotage or an assassination attempt. With all the members alive and well, Delta Omega Epsilon hitched a ride on a freighter and was sent to Nausica VII to sabotage the near-archaic Nausican government. The Nausicans had been raiding Bolian freighters for years and they had finally had enough. The agents blew up a few major spaceports and bombed a few palaces. It was a 6-month campaign and was not easy against the warrior Nausicans. But thanks to amazing secrecy and professionalism the Bolians were able to complete their mission with relative ease.
Delta Omega Epsilon’s final two missions were both horrible disasters. The Bolian Spy Net sent the team back to the Gamma Quadrant from Nausica VII. They arrive at DS9 and gain passage on the Galaxy Class starship USS Odyssey (NCC-71832). Their mission was simply to gain passage on a federation vessel and explore the Gamma Quadrant. Unfortunately the trip was hardly a walk in the park. On December 10th 2370, the USS Odyssey makes first contact with Jen’hadar. Out manned and out gunned the USS Odyssey is forced to retreat. While retreating the vessel is destroyed with the loss of all hands… except the Bolian foursome. They were able to get to the escape pods and as a result survived. They were then marooned on a planet in the Gamma quadrant for almost a year, until their second mission came along.
The Bolians had been in contact with the Bolian government for about 2 months and learned of a joint Tal Shiar-Obsidian Order fleet that would be sent out to destroy the Founders. Taking advantage of this information, Delta Omega Epsilon managed to get onboard the Romulan Warbird Rakata. Enabran Tain of the Cardassians leads the joint taskforce right into a trap and as a result all the ships are destroyed by a 150 ship Jem’Hadar Ambush. Not all the Bolians made it out alive however. Delta Omega Epsilon member Goa Fell was killed on the warbird and Engineer Roe Yanic was lost and presumed dead (rumor has surfaced that he is alive). Yurri Joaa and Akari Dano survived by beaming themselves to USS Defiant. The two were sent back to DS9 and both then returned to Bolarus IX for what would be Delta Omega Epsilon’s last day.
Behind closed doors at the Bolian Spy Network HQ, Delta Omega Epsilon was disbanded and the name was retired. All documents concerning the surviving members (Akari & Yurri) were destroyed and Akari was forced to begin his life a new. He was given a new biography, which was an alternate of the one he had lived. He would pose as a Barber and Bartender for now on and live out his life in that way. Yurri and Akari would not meet in person again but would occasionally contact each other over subspace. Yurri stayed in the Bolian Spy Network and is now a top ranking official while Akari retired after 20 years and with the rank of Major.
Akari’s next task was simple, he was to live onboard a federation starship… but which starship was always the question. The BSN gave him a list of other ships with former operatives onboard: USS Enterprise-E – Mott the Barber. USS Dreadnaught – Guagh the Tailor. USS Odyssey-A – Tye the Bartender. So Akari’s choices were limited to a select group of ships. He decided that he would go aboard the USS Impulse (NCC-2775) and he would serve as the head bartender and barber. He met up with the Impulse when it came to Bolarus IX and was granted quarters and a business by the ship’s captain: Niko Elbarum. Captain Niko was a Betazoid and it proved to be a very good test for Akari. He was forced to not remember or recall any of the past events of his life. He had to totally memorize, everything, on his new alternate biography and make sure all of his dates and places added up. He did an admirable job.
It was at about the same time when Akari Dano first received his beloved hamster: Bob. The Impulse’s first mission was to an attacked federation outpost near the Cardassian border. A crewmember saw the hamster and brought it onboard as a kind of cool toy. Akari saw the fuzzy creature and bought it instantly for 10 bars of latinum. The two would remain together for a long time.
A few months later the Impulse was raided by a Tal Shiar agent named Tran Regya. At the time Lt. Regya was on the run from her own security agency. Bob the hamster as it turns out just happened to be a Tal Shiar operated hamster. The poor creature had had its mind under Romulan control for sometime and Akari had no idea. The hamster actually attempted to kill Regya by biting her because the creature’s teeth had a cyanide implant installed inside them. The attempt was thwarted and Regya turned the hamster against Akari Dano and the Peacemaker crew.
Akari at the time was having a few problems with authority. He was still not used to living life onboard a federation starship. For example, he had a very powerful disruptor behind his bar counter and the XO of the Impulse often seized many of his strange and dangerous valuables. Akari always got them back however, even though it was never legally. Akari was not given his own business on the ship, but rather had to run the 10 Forward. He would eventually change the name to “DANO’S!” but not after several heated arguments with the XO.
It was paradise really. Akari had enough latinum to even bride the captain into opening his own barbershop. And so Akari became the official Barber and Bartender aboard the USS Impulse. He added holographic waitresses, daboo tables (illegally) and even set up a day spa. Unfortunately, All good things must come to an end. Hamster Bob was killed on the separate occasions by Tran Regya, his bar was closed because of power concerns during wartime and to top it off: The Impulse was shot down by Cardassians and crash landed into the planet Dega VI.
Dega VI was a rather… desert like place. With only rocks and sand. It was depressing. For 3 months the Impulse crew held off the Cardassians. Akari had even joined the fight but was later told to go down with the civilians by Captain Niko. Akari didn’t like that, but he did as he was ordered and protected the civilians with his secret stash of weapons. The USS Patton finally picked them up and the crew
were all sent to dry dock.
The USS Impulse-A (NCC 2775-A) was then commissioned. It was an updated Nebula class vessel. The Impulse-A had very few problems. There was no wild Tal Shiar agent or Cardassian Attacks. It was a very smooth year. However, Akari’s relationship with Captain Niko Elbarum faded and as a result he opted to move his bar to a far less exciting place. Akari opened a shop on Deep Space 5 next to a Klingon restaurant. He once again named it ‘DANO’S!’ and was actually quite successful.
Since Akari was not a federation citizen he could open up a gambling section in his bar. All the gambling onboard the station was how Akari Dano was able to purchase so many rare and expensive items. He already had a large stash of Romulan Ale and always claimed it was his last bottle. As a result, he made thousands on a single bottle of the Ale and it further increased his riches. One day on the station Akari saw his son for the first time since he was born. Noi Dano was 18 and stumbled onto his father by accident. Akari almost forgot he had a son and totally forgot about his parents. They were just things that he no longer thought about. He learned from Noi that his parents were both killed in a shuttle accident in 2361 years earlier. Akari had no idea and was shocked to say the least. He was able to bond with his son for about 7 months. Akari barely bonded with his son, and then Akari was transferred again. This time to one of the places he hated the most. Cardassia Prime.
Akari had a tendency to look over his shoulder quite a bit while on Cardassia. There were countless individuals that he was once sent to kill. Fortunately, none of them would have thought that Akari would actually return to Cardassia. The Federation had set up a post-dominion government on Cardassia and Akari was allowed to become the main Bartender of the local pub called “Reptile”. Akari was less then thrilled. He was overjoyed when a Lt. Commander Millwood and a Lt. Damar asked him to come onboard their new post: The USS Peacemaker. Akari jumped at the invitation and was soon onboard the ship. Akari was able to reopen his business, but this time he made it a Coffeeshop/Barbershop and still kept the name ‘DANO’S!’. Admiral Christopher Pike was even gracious enough to give him his own quarters. Akari was thrilled and hopes to retire into obscurity onboard the USS Peacemaker.
