In summer, there is good hiking and mountain biking. Just a half hour's drive from downtown Salt Lake City is home to Alta and Snowbird mountain resorts.

Alta is known amongst summer hikers for its incredible wildflower displays.

Wild mountain goats can often be seen on the Wasatch Mountains. Late winter and early spring are usually the best times to see them.

During World War II Alta ski center became involved in the war effort when paratroopers from the 10th Mountain Regiment trained on its slopes.
