Gray J. Ruffin, born 24 Sep 1828, married Jan 1849, Mourning Winstead. He died in Raleigh in the Confederate Army, 12 Oct 1863. and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery-Raleigh.

"His widow, Mourning Winstead Ruffin, remarried to a John D. Williamson and
moved to Hyde County. She took her two sons (of Gray Ruffin), William G. and
Guilford L. Ruffin with her.
1) William G. Ruffin married Almira Fortesque in Hyde
County . "William G. Ruffin and Almira Fortesque had William G. Ruffin, Jr., born
1875 in Hyde County, NC.,
John Lee Ruffin, born May 1877, married 1901, Sarah Elizabeth Pledger of Hyde
County

Thomas Ruffin, born 1890 in Hyde County."

2)Guilford Ruffin must have died young as I can find no trace of him."

"William G. Ruffin, Jr. must have died young also. I can find no trace of him."

"Thomas Ruffin had not married when he was 30 years old. He was living with
his brother, John Lee Ruffin then."

"John Lee Ruffin married Sarah Elizabeth Pledger in Hyde County. They had
Theodore Ruffin, Lucy Ruffin, Almyra Cornelia, Sarah Elizabeth Ruffin and Ava
May Ruffin. I have not been able to trace this line any further as yet."

Petition to Sell Land for Assets

To the Clerk of the Superior Court for said County:
The petition of David Williams Administrator respectfully showeth-
Outstanding debts about $75. Value of personal estate (0000) nothing.
That, at the time of her death, the said intestate was seized in fee
simple of the following land, a tract of land in Wilson County adjoining
the lands R. D. Johnson, P. S. Petway & others, containing twelve acres,
or thereabouts of the value of about $10 per acre.
Your petitioner further showeth-

The administrator begs leave to report that in accordance with an(d)
order hertofore issued that he, after having given the required notice
offered for sale the land discribed in the petition, on the 14th day of
January 1871 at the Court House door in the Town of Wilson, where and
when P. S. Petway appeared and bid the sum of three hundred dollars
which being the last and highest bid, he was declared the purchaser who
immediately complied with the terms of sale. The administrator further
reports that the price is a fair one and recommends the confirmation
thereof.

Notes from Brenda Williamson 2/2005
I would like to know where John D. Williamson was buried. In the book, "The Williamson Family of Pamlico, Hyde & Beaufort Counties," page 15:

John D. Williamson (b.1828-d.aft.1900) married four times:
1. Julia Ann Spain in 1864
2. Mary Ann Rasco
3. Mrs. Mourning Ann (Winstead) Ruffin in 1868
4. Mary Ann Stotesbury

In the 1900 Hyde Census John was 72 and Mary, his 4th wife, was 63 and they lived in Swan Quarter Township. Neither of them appear in the 1910 Hyde Census.
John D. Williamson was a son of Samuel Williamson (ca.1774-1840) & Charity (___?___), and a grandson of Samuel Williamson (ca.1755-1821).
