Alana Davis Other than Sade, I don't think there is another musician out there who I identify more with than Alana Davis. She caught my attention in 1998 or thereabouts with her take on "32 Flavors". My hand to God, that song became my anthem of biracial, bicultural world citizen pride. I love her for giving me a song that says I'm proud to be who I am when the world seemed to be closing in on me, telling me where to fit myself.. Other songs like "Crazy", "The Weight of the World", "When You Became King" and "I Want You" are so phenomenal to me, because it's like she's looked into my heart and written songs about my thoughts. And for that, I can only say that I hope I get to meet her one day and thank her in person. Alana, You Are The Best. |

(Felicia) Fefe Dobson has recently emerged on the U.S. music scene. I have to say that there's a little punk rocker/emo kid in me and it leapt to life when I saw Fefe's video "Take Me Away". Born to a Euro-Canadian mother and a Jamaican father, Fefe was raised by her single mom and at 18 years old is a passionate and fierce young woman whose voice is clearly demanding to be heard. I think she's brilliant. photo courtesy of Fefe.ca |
