Games for the day were running around 45 minutes behind schedule due to earlier playoff games played by another HTHL league. By the time the Rebels took the ice for their playoff game against the third seed Carvettes, it was already known the league's first place, Team B, defeated the fourth seed, Spencer, 7-4 behind a 4 goal performance from Jenny Boswell.

The Carvettes quickly fell behind to the Rebels on goals by Carol Swink, Mary and what later turned out to be the game winning goal by Lina. The Rebels continued to roll through the Carvettes by scoring the final 6 goals of the game to an eventual 9-2 Rebels victory.

------- 3/20 Playoff Summary -------
3pm - #1 Team B 7, #4 Spencer 4
4pm - #2 Rebels 9, #3 Carvettes 2
5pm - Winners: #1 Team B vs #2 Rebels
The Rebels now had the task of playing a back-to-back second game, the championship game, against the rested first seed Team B. With only enough rest created from a Zamboni ice cut of the surface, the bench knew it was going to be reduced by one player at some point. The Rebels would surely be tested knowing Lina would have to leave before the completion of this game. However, Carol Hoffman, replacing Lorraine who left after the first period of the previous game, had the freshest legs and was ready for the challenge.

It would not be Rebels' hockey if there was no controversy. And, yes, we had controversy in who would start in goal for Team B. Maggie or Scott. Scott won. Kristine and Wendy, calling Richard aside, agreed it was time to put an end to the controversy by declaring this to be "our game to take". With this in mind, the Rebels gathered near the bench as a sign of unity for final game instructions by Richard.

Just like the first game, Team B's Jenny Boswell was the scoring force by giving Team B a 1-0 lead. However, the Rebels countered with goals by Carol H. and Traci to take a 2-1 lead. Team B scored the next two goals with Jenny, again, putting Team B in front 3-2. The first period ended 5-4 as the Rebels moved out in front to stay with two more goals by Mary and another by Carol H.

Lina wished the team well as she had to leave. The bench, having only six players left, felt confident knowing there was only 20 minutes of hockey left and could sense something special was going to happen. And in short order, Carol H., Carol S. and Traci extended the Rebels lead by four to make the score 8-4. Then Team B mounted a comeback on a goal by Barbara Sorakato plus two more goals from Jenny to tighten the score to 8-7 with around 5 minutes left in the game.

At this point, Richard instructed the bench to change from the previous 2-1 offensive-defensive or man-to-man game plan to a 1-2 alignment. Simply put, we were going to play the clock like a long penalty kill by dumping the puck out of the zone. On the next player change, Carol H. took the puck into Team B zone on a break away to add an insurance goal to give the Rebels a 9-7 lead.

The Rebels had some scary moments as physical play slowed down several players: Lorraine into the far boards sliding head first, Lina knocked down to ice with a near spear to the chest and Traci with another stick incident with 15 seconds left. I am happy to report everyone appears to be fine.

Finally, the Rebels' 3-on-3 league team is extremely proud to report they are the champions of Hockey WorkOut's Hat Trick Hockey League 1998 Winter Women's Divison.
