Welcome to Killing Me Softly, a site devoted to the non-white characters of BtVS and AtS. I created this site because I felt the characters of colour (not just black, all non-white characters) were not only being underrepresented, they were being misrepresented. To me, Gunn seemed like a modern version of the 'happy slave'. I've only seen sexualization in the black women on the show, and I find that the non-human (which are most often non-white - there are more non-white vampires than non-white human extras, and monstrous generally means darker) factions, when showed in a favourable light, are treated as 'Jar Jar Binx'-a-likes, (Hello, Lorne!).

This site houses fanfiction, essays (which showcase various, admittedly liberal-minded takes on contemporary issues), and a slowly growing database for the characters of colour on BtVS and AtS. The database is hard to continue accurately as a one-person job, and any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. Fanfiction is accepted, as are essays. If you would like to cross-link, don't be shy to ask, I haven't said no yet. Enjoy your journey.
