2000 QB Gaming Gold Awards
Sponsored by V Planet! QuickBasic Magazine and qb45.com/start For two months, V Planet! QuickBasic Magazine has been gathering votes from the QB community with the cooperation of Future Software's QBStartPage for the 2000 QB Gaming Gold Awards. This unique awards ceremony gives twelve awards to QB games as voted by the QB community. The voting was done through a ballot system. Nominees were chosen through e-mail requests to V Planet! QuickBasic Magazine from loyal game fans. To make it as a nominee, at least three requests had to be given from three different people who were not involved with the project or game that they were nominating. To qualify, video game nominees had to be written in any version of QuickBasic. Games that are aided by libraries or other programming languages were allowed as long as the application of QuickBasic was appropriate and substantial to the development of the project. When the final ballot was written, nineteen video games and sixteen QB game companies were represented as the best that QB has to offer. In addition to video games, The Gaming Gold Ballot featured eleven video game characters for the "Best Gaming Hunk" and "Best Gaming Babe" awards. These two categories showcased QB's finest heroes and heroines as the mascots that they are, representing the heritage of our language in a way that simple code can not imitate. After the ballot was written, various QB discussion boards were notified of the existence of this new award. Every nominee was also notified and given the opportunity to campaign their nominations. A period of two months was alloted, from early December to January 26, for people to vote for their favorite QB games. During this voting time, the results were clearly showing that the year 2000 was the war between the QBRPG craze and the Arcade legends. QuickBasic was nearing the apex of its RPG renaissance, with many of its games featuring medevil concepts and its fair share of Final Fantasy/Zelda type games. But the arcade game front was equally strong because of the ever-popular Wetspot 2 and Monospace, two games by two companies that for one reason or another have retired before the end of the 20th century. The result? A dramatic finish to the 2000 QB Gaming Gold Awards. One hundred fifty ballots were tallied by V Planet! QuickBasic Magazine. And now, without further delay, here are the winners of the 2000 QB Gaming Gold Awards.
