Criminal Profiling Books.
Crime Classification Manual - by John E. Douglas & Robert K. Ressler (+ contributors)
comments: Clearly a must-have for any student of criminal profiling (or the like). This is mandatory, folks.
Profiling Violent Crimes : An Investigative Tool
- by Ronald M. Holmes, Stephen T. Holmes
comments: A guide for students and professionals in criminology and criminal justice to constructing a psychological profile of someone who perpetrated a crime. The method incorporates such social factors as age, race, sex, occupation, and education. The second edition includes new chapters on geography, the use of computers, arson, and pedophilia; it also drops the chapter on Satanic murders, which was little used by professionals and much used by zealots to justify witch hunts. - From Book News, Inc. , June 1, 1996
Criminal Profiling: An Introduction to Behavioral Evidence - by Brent E. Turvey, et al
comments: rent Turvey presents an introduction to the field of criminal profiling that is long overdue on the market. This book is a must-read by anyone in the profession or desiring to enter the profession. Turvey focuses on the ideologies and uses of profiling and discusses how profiling is viewed as a tool and a profession from within and without law enforcement. He also discusses to some extent what is wrong with the present handling of serial homicide investigations and how this could be improved upon. However, students expecting a step-by-step guide too profiling will be disappointed. This book does not put one through the logical procedures and considerations of building a profile and that book is still waiting to be written by someone in the profession. Meanwhile, this book should be in the personal library of anyone interested in the criminal profiling field. Pat Brown/Director/Investigative Criminal Profiler/The Sexual Homicide Exchange, Inc.
Practical Homicide Investigation : Tactics, Procedures and Forensic Techniques (CRC Series in Practical Aspects of Criminal and Forensic investigation) - Vernon J. Geberth(Editor)
comments:I have worked as a crime scene investigator for some 15 years and am now a police academy director. This text is the "Bible" for those of us who investigate murder--there is no better collection of information available. I also recommend Lt. Cmndr. Geberth's course offered throughout the United States under the same title. Get this, but don't leave it laying around--some cop will steal it! - Terry L. Davis
