Practical Assessment based on Fieldwork:

In week 5 of Term 1, you will be going to Camp Kedron at Ingleside to undertake a day of practical experiences. This will build upon skills that you will research, discover and learn about in the weeks which lead up to that time.

The assessment format for this module will be a report on your fieldwork. The following is a good indication of what will be required.

Presentation of a complete report including:

  1. Title page which indicates your name, an appropriate title, your teacher's name and the due date
  2. A Contents Page which includes page number references for ALL inclusions
  3. An Introduction which outlines the study:

gives a description of the ecosystem and community studied
               provides relevant background information
  4. A statement of the Aim(s) of the fieldwork
  5. A clear and succinct description of the Methods of assessing various components of the ecosystem including:

    • abundance and distribution of a named indigenous plant and animal
    • various physical and chemical components of the ecosystem
    • adaptations of a named, indigenous plant and an animal
    • any observed relationships between organisms within the ecosystem
  6. A concisely reported Results section which compiles the data indicated above. This should also incorporate:

  7. Discussion which addresses the key findings of your investigations, and offers any links between various facts discovered. Your Discussion should also highlight in separate paragraphs:
    • the efficiency of energy flow and cycling of matter within the community studied
    • the human impact on the area studied
    • at least two feasible recommendations as a solution to identified problems that arise in the ecosystem as a result of human impact.
  8. A statement of Conclusion which is a brief summary relating to the outcomes of the aims of the
    field study.
(This need not be much longer than a few sentences.)
  9. Following this, if any resources are used, they should be correctly cited under "References"
  10. Any additional materials should be included in an Appendix
