Welcome

Xira

"Well?" Xira asked. "Are you going to hand me over for them to hang?" her voice was soft, thick with sarcasm and a little something extra. Hope, hope that the woman who saved her, wouldn't hand her over to a bunch of maniacs.

Tiyanni stared down at her and started to laugh. "I just saved you from the death of cold!My job as the Weyrwoman is to take care of each and every creature which comes by my Weyr as long as they don't cause harm to any of my residents." her eyes cooled then. "Many... creatures have arrived here, so unless they come looking for you, I do not know of your past... besides, I don't want my piece of work to be destroyed, do I?" she said, smiling.

Xira stared at the woman for a while, and didn't know what to say. "Then... then... what am I to do?" she asked, dumb founded.

Tiyanni smiled. "Just stay until spring, and I'll find a place for you to go." she said, smiling. "There is a planet called the Vella Crean which is accepting people from all over."

The weeks went by quickly, with Xira growing into her strong self. Every day she could spare, she trained her body back to its prime, original condition. By the time winter had ended, she had grown used to the people in the Weyr, especially Tiyanni. She slung a bag over her shoulder, a bag full of herbs that the healer had bullied her into taking with her. As she waited patiently for the transport to arrive, she smiled.

"Thank you..." she said, nodding. "For taking care of me... its not something many people would have done after knowing of my past. I am also... thankful that you've actually found a place for me to stay."

Tiyanni smiled warmly. "Welcome... maybe one day, you will return to Ryslen Weyr."

Xira nodded. As the dragon bent down, making it easier for her to climb onto its back, she waved hesitantly one last time, and muttered two words. "Vella Crean."

The warmth of summer was at its prime in Ryslen. Yet still, the figure wore a long, dark blue cloak. It went and covered her arms and seemed to float by her feet. It had a high collar which was fastened by a ornate silver like choker. Her hair was loose around her shoulders, and seemed to reflect all light, going against the rules of light and colors. And when Tiyanni walked towars the woman, the Weyrwoman's face broke into a grin.

"Xira! It has been quite a while since you have come for a visit, has it not?" Tiyanni asked warmly, hugging the young woman. Xira nodded, letting herself relax into the older woman's embrace. She was like a mother to her in the way that she had care for her while she was sick. "Listen, I'd love to stay and chat, but I need to clear up some matters first... young weyrlings are always getting into trouble! I'll see you soon...just make yourself at home!" she called out, nodding to the young woman.

Xira nodded, watching the elderly woman disappear when she heard a buzz in the back of her head. She frowned, and tried to locate the source of the buzz, when she realised it really wasn't from herself, but from something else. She led her mind and her ears lead her, when she arrived into a small cavern just to the east of the abandoned caverns. Upon entering though, the buzzing stopped, and instead seemed to be replaced with words. She couldn't see what the noise was coming from at first, so she decided to take matters into her own hands.

"STOP!"

This indeed stopped everything, and for a second, Xira thought she had imagined the noise. Then, she heard a very dignified grump of a sound.

Who are you to say what we should do and not do? I'm the boss here! came a cranky sounding voice. She could locate the source, but couldn't see within the depths of the shadows, who it was coming from.

"Well then, learn to control the batch a little bit more." Xira retorted, straining her eyes. "What are you, anyways?"

Some creatures in there started to snort, and she was sure she heard one laugh. We're dragons. the first voice drawled out lazily, and Xira couldn't help but think.

"Why can't I see you? Why are you here? And where are your riders?"

You can't see us? We are here... our riders.... one dragon started, and it paused for one second.

What he's trying to say, is that we don't have riders, we don't want riders... at least, not now. Ir we do find someone who is right for us, then maybe... but now? We don't need riders. the voice was full of pride at this.

Why are you so curious? Well then, I'll deal with you. You, go scatter in the caverns for a while. I want to talk to this one alone. the dragon snapped out, causing them to move. Xira smiled, admiring the way that the dragon seemed to take control of everything. Sit down. the dragon said, causing Xira to stiffen.

"No one bosses me around."

Yeah? Well, no one bosses me around either. So tough luck.

Xira stared into the shadows, moving on the balls of her feet. "Don't boss me around." she said softly, her voice deepening. "You don't know what I am." she paused, then sat on a slab of wood which seemed to be the remains of a chair. "Grumpy..." she muttered under her breath.

I heard that. Its not my fault... not really anyways, we might not have riders, but we like sticking together, and I like taking charge of all of them, making sure their alright. And sometimes, you have to be rough to take charge.

Xira softened slightly against the dragon. "Xira. The names Xira. Its a good job your doing, taking care of the rest." she commented, rolling back into the chair on the balls of her feet. "Me, I had parents... but they died, and then I had to run away from my village. I've been living in the Vella Crean for a short while now, I was healed by Tiyanni." she explained. She grimaced. "But its not the same back at the VC. All those people who don't do anything right, don't like being told by me that their not doing it right... such a stubborn bunch of fools." she said, and chuckled. "Naeodin thinks I'll make a great leader some day, but who knows whats to become with my life? Now? I just train myself hard."

Train?

Xira nodded. Getting up, she unbuttoned her cloak, showing off her weapons. There were many more then before, tucked around her stomache, on her wrists curving up towards her palms. She looked dangerous, and the dragon seemed to stiffen slightly. Xira smiled.

"Scary, huh? Don't worry... I rarely use these on dragons..." she chuckled at the outraged squack coming from all caverns. "I work for a man named Shy... seems that there are alot of evil people, so I just... remind them of stuff."

So you get to kick ass?

Xira nodded. "Yeah."

I'd like to do that...
