We are the Children of the Spider Queen driven beneath the surface long ago by the light-loving elves, we have made a home for ourselves in what the surface dwellers call the Underdark. We have become the Mistresses and masters of dark grottoes, and any intelligent creature fears to intrude upon us.
The Spider Queen Lloth revealed herslf to us when we lived upon the surface and we sought to enlighten our brethen to her ways, they would not listen. Then the humans and the younger races committed war upon all the Elder Races and we the children of Lloth put aside our differences and fought with them. A long, painful war, Drow and elf together fought side by side, and great magicks flew in the name of Lloth. Much of the world lay in devastation, soaked in the blood of Drow, Elves and the younger races. Finally, however, the heretics and unbelievers through foul magics and deceptions, betrayed the Children of the Spider Queen we called on them for aid and they refused to come leaving us to fight the younger races alone. All but one race of our kin left us we forged then a pact with our cold brethern the Norns and their strange Ancestor Dracos. We sought a place of defense a way to retreat survive and reap revenge upon our cursed brethren who hid from war in their tree top bowers.
Lloth and Dracos granted their children succour in the bowls of the earth in the strange places surrounded by the holy Darkness. Slowly Lloths Children were changed our skin darkened our hair bleached from the strange waters we bathed in. Soon night became as day to us and day a painful sight. Lloth the Spider Queen spoke to her children through her Priestess's saying that the female was stronger than the male and would lead the way. The Strongest females of each house led in Lloths name each house moving out in the Darkness to build great cities and praise the Spider Queen for her mercy.
We seek constantly to improve our position in the world and in Lloth's many eyes. If it comes at the expense of another's life, so much the better. That makes one less to challenge us.
