George Sinclair Brodie, Auctioneer in Collins Street, (Melb) from 1840 onwards. Arrived with sheep in 1836 and held Bulla Bulla Run; Kilmory, Portland Bay, 1844-46, Campaspie 1845-53 and with A.R.Cruikshank, Auctioneers, 1843-45, Wonwondah February 1843- August 1845. Died in 1880. Neither Brodie nor Cruikshank ever lived at Wonwondah, the station being controlled by a manager.
George Brodie is credited as being the first man to auction wool in Melbourne, the sale being set down for 12 o'clock on November 7th 1845. The sale reported in the Port Phillip Patriot was "8 bales of fine, washed wool, selling for 12.25 pence per pound". It was said to be of "good quality but poorly got up".
George Sinclair Brodie left his wife Mary in NSW, and returned with his children to Scotland 1851 and later to Middlesex where he sued for divorce on 21 Apr 1861 - granted because he established residency in UK, and wife stayed in Australia.

William Buckley 6 Jul 1835 A white man of huge stature, (six feet 7 inches tall ) wrapped in a large kangaroo skin, and armed with native weapons, walked into the camp of John Batmans party at Indented Head. He died in 1856 at Hobart.

Joseph Byrne - see web site for Joseph Byrne. He was born in Dublin in about 1800, the son of a small-time cattle-dealer, Joseph Byrne of Mount Argus House in that city. In 1839 he travelled overland from New South Wales to South Australia with two friends, driving about 1 000 sheep along the Murrumbidgie and Murray rivers to Adelaide, where after a five-month journey, they safely delivered most of the animals to market. From Adelaide he went to Melbourne, and apparently this is where he married in 1841. Joseph Byrne - Byrne wed Agnes Farrell in 1841 at Roman Catholic Melbourne & Geelong
His wife was Agnes O’Farrell, the daughter of William O’Farrell of Port Philip, Melbourne. During 1841-1842 he was a reporter on the Melbourne Argus, but lost his job after a dispute in the police court was dismissed. He went back to England where, in 1848 he published his Twelve years’ wanderings in the British colonies from 1835 to 1847.
After a failed enterprise in Natal, By early 1853 he was at the gold-diggings in the Colony of Victoria, while later in the year he was at Geelong.
b/b28.html#joby"> In 1856 Agnes Byrne left her husband owing to his violence towards her, and took refuge in the home of a barrister, Mr Le Poer Trench. Byrne tried to gain access to her, but she refused to see him. Trench requested him to leave and a scuffle ensued. Trench fell and was beaten in the face. In Jan. 1859 that Byrne was in Paris, then he tried a scheme with Peru. While sailing back to Callao in 1863 with his first group of islanders (about 183 in number), Byrne died.

From notes on Sarah Blanch, Alexander Bishop Butler and his wife Charlotte Selina (Mortimer), and 6 children] arrived in Port Phillip, Monday 16 December 1839 the day of the death of their cousins John & Sarah Blanch. Charlotte is dau of Elizabeth Vaughan and Jackson Mortimer born c1800 and died 1860, and sister to Ann who wed John Blanch and whose John was killed, and William Henry Mortimer. Ten days after their arrival in Port Phillip, Charlotte Selina Butler gave birth to her seventh child, a son, Phillip Henry, 29 December 1839, baptised in the Independent Church 9 February 1840. Another child is Jane Mortimer, aged 8.
