Edward and Mary Parker and six sons left England on the ‘Elizabeth in` April 1838, bound for Sydney. On arrival Mr Parker was formally appointed a Territorial Magistrate for the Port Phillip district. On January 3rd. 1839, the Parker family found themselves in Melbourne. Their first home in the Colony was to be a small collection of tents, pitched on the approximate site of the old Melbourne goal.
Edward Stone Parker officially took office for the Mt Macedon district. In September 1839, after a survey led by Robinson, Edward Parker, his wife, nursemaid Miss Hanna Edwards, seven children, (all under 11), an overseer, Robert Bazely, his wife, a medical assistant, four convicts on "ticket of leave" and three native policemen set forth from Melbourne for Neereman, and the ensuing dry summer persuaded them to change location plans. They established the Franklinford Mission.
Mr Parker quickly established a rapport with the Aboriginals, being trained as a teacher.

Lewis Pedrana was in Melbourne 12 Sep 1837 when he was appointed Overseer to superintend the work of the convicts in constructing roads - salary 5/-d per day. He later operated the Dundee Arms Hotel and on July 25 1842 was Insolvent as a Publican. This is thought to have been a renamed Governor Bourke Hotel, which was owned by Michael Carr and his wife Kitty and located in or near Flinders Lane.
Mary Pedrana wed in May 1841 to John Roberts at 1841 at Presbyterian Melbourne & Geelong. She was Lewis Pedrana's only daughter and they had many children. For more on Pedrana see Hebrides discussion on Peteranna,
Louis John Antonio Pedrana was shipwrecked on or near South Uist.
Louis was born C1753, died 29/4/1844 aged 91 and is buried in the Church yard at Kettins near Coupar Angus.
Louis at the age of 42 had a son John Pedrana in 1795 on South Uist.
Louis remarried in London and had another two children, Lewis and a daughter Frances
Lewis (Jr) came to Sydney, Australia with his wife Jean Symington in 1836 and moved to Melbourne in 1837.
My notes on the Gladstone family - Sarah Annie Gladstone c1843 wed 1863 #724 to Frederick Pedrana, believed to be a son of Lewis.
