A tribute to to my great-uncle, a kind, decent, gentle man. He was the youngest brother of my maternal grand-father Alroy Lester Greet (1899-1964). Roley's father, William Greet, was the farmer son of William and Hermine "Minnie" Greet (nee Kapernick). William's parents, Joshua and Grace, emigrated from Cornwall in 1859: William was born in 1872. Hermine Augusta Louisa Kapernick was born in Cummerow, Pomerania in 1875 and came to Australia with her parents Wilhelm and Hermine in 1880. My mother's cousins Jennifer Greet and the late Dorothea Connolly have written a fascinating and moving account of the family's history in "A Goodly Heritage: A History of the Greet Family in Cornwall and Australia". ("Greet" is an uncommon name: I'd love to hear from any other Greets out there).
