1. This verse seems to be describing Hurtle Duffield, the artist protagonist in Patrick White's novel, The Vivisector. See also Note 3 below
2. Sid Vicious (1957 - 1979) was bass player with the Sex Pistols and Nancy Spungen (1958 - 1978) an infamous groupie. Sid died of a heroin overdose awaiting trial for the murder of Nancy.
3. Patrick White (1912 - 1990) is arguably Australia's greatest literary figure. He won the Nobel prize for Literature in 1973. See also Note 1 above.
4. Ted Whitten, also known as "Mr Football" was a player, coach and selector for Footscray [now the Western Bulldogs], a club in the Victorian [now Australian] Football League. Ted Whitten is also thanked in the credits on track 27.
5. Derryn Hinch is a "journalist" / current affairs show host who is a favourite target of TISM, also being mentioned in The Penis is Mightier Than the Sword, Lose Your Delusion I and Lose Your Delusion II.
6. Jeff Kennett was the Liberal Party Opposition Leader for many years (including at the time this song was written). He was later Premier of Victoria from 1992 - 1999. His reign was typified by economic rationalist policies, and dodgy deals such as those surrounding the building of the Crown Casino and "winning" the Grand Prix for Melbourne. 7. Bamber Gascoigne is a British author, broadcaster and publisher. He was host of University Challenge from 1962-87. He is now Chairman of the interactive web site, HistoryWorld.
8. Keith Moon (1947 - 1978) was drummer in British rock band The Who. His wild and zany lifestyle ended with an overdose of sleeping pills.
9. Kevin Bloody Wilson is like a crude and even more talentless version of TISM.
10. Albert Camus (1913 - 1960) was a member of the existentialist movement. He is another favourite target of TISM being mentioned in Existentialtism and Morrison Hostel.
11. (Johan) August Strindberg (1849 - 1912) was a Swedish dramatist and novelist. His saire, The Red Room, is regarded as Sweden's first modern novel.
12. Robert Gottliebsen is a high profile business analyst / journalist.
13. Nero was Emperor of Rome in 64 AD when a fire destroyed half the city. A popular myth has him playing the fiddle while watching the fire.
