June 7 1999 1.1 millions colleges graduates are facing fewer jobs in 1999. Causes are: Half of the civil servants, both of national and provincial levels, are going to leave their "iron rice bowl" jobs, as will many employees of national enterprises. This is the general situation: Graduates wish to stay in big cities like Beijing. Employers wish to have staff with higher scholastic degree- MA or PH.D. The most serious problem is that the education and job-demands in the country are not identical. How can the PRC or the college grduates themselvesto solve this problem?
