Foreign Exchange Reserves : When ranking foreign reserves of various countries, Japan, with US$363,690,000,000, is usually ranked No. 1(end of Feb 2001), then comes PRC US$170,000,000,000 (end of Jan 2001), and Hongkong US$114,3000,000,000 (end of Feb 2001). If one were to add Taiwan's(ROC) US$110.085,000,000(end of Feb, 2001) to the picture, then PRC+HK+ROC = US$394,385,000,000, which exceeds even that of Japan. Could a way be found to mobilize this huge wealth for the benefit of the world in general and Asia in particular?

TAIWAN: Taipei garbage recycling income (resale of garbage collected and incinerator's plant's power), during July 1999 to Dec 2000, amounted to about US$20,000,000. This is fairly impressive, but even more heartening is that Taipei residents are becoming more recycling conscious. As a result, each month's income from resale of garbage amounts to US$300,000.

1) More superhighways to be built in PRC: Although, PRC has 6,258 km of superhighways, it is a miniscule figure for such a big mass of land. 1) Taiwan has completed yet another joint venture in the USA - a seafood processing factory in Alaska that isa jont project with an Alaskan seafood center and the state government. Total capital amounts to $110 million. The state government takes a 5% capital stake, while the Alaskan party and Taiwan party subscribe 47.5% each. The factory is scheduled to start operations in coming June.
2) The People's Republic of China (PRC) is often thought of as an investment sink. Yet, the PRC has, according to the trade authorities, 5600+ enterprises overseas.
