The Deity Who Always Answers Your Prayers

January 26, 2000

There is a sizeable colony of Hindu Indians in both in Singapore and Malaysia, who always celebrate their religious festival THAIPUSAM with colourful and unique activities.

In the millennium year of 2,000, Thaipusam fell on Jan 21. I was very pleased to be able to see the procession of those Indian devotees marching in Singapore's streets. The most awesome impression was seeing those hooked KAVADIS (decorative pieces to honour MURUGA, whom God entrusted to conquer evil with a VEL, a spear-like weapon given by God) on bare skin. Why is this deity is so enthusiastically worshipped by our Indian friends? Because they deeply believe in this Deity, who always answers the prayers of his followers for fertility, health, success and prosperity!

It looked to me that those devotees were definitely happy. I believe that was due to the anticipation of the Deity’s fulfilment of their financial prayers, which was evident in general economic recovery of this area. For instance, I have visited, so far, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia. Taiwan has recovered from the most destructive earthquake in its history and achieved a more than 5% domestic production growth in 1999. Also, during last year, Singapore scored an increase of its exports and Malaysia kept its inflation at about 2.6%, while the stock indexe went up to 812 from 586 points. As a result, I have seen signs of prosperity in each of the places I have visited. So, it is not hard to believe that Thaipusam must have answered our prayers.

My website friends, regardless of their faith, must have prayed to their own God for his or her greater prosperity. Now, that general prosperity has been evident in this region, are we going to catch this economic trend by thinking of making more business or investment in PACIFIC RIM countries? Preamble

January 15, 2000

People usually make wishes at the beginning of a yea; so I am going to follow suit.

I am reminded of a poem by a renowned poet, who lived in 900 A D. The poem expressed the 3 wishes of a wife:

At the new year party, a cup of green wine followed by a song;
I paid homage twice to the Heaven and submit my 3 wishes on;
First is to wish that my husband live a thousand years long;
Then that I am, at all times, healthy and strong;
Third is to wish us as swallows on beams, always together.

It gives me pleasure to wish our browsers, at the truning of the Millenium year:

-First is to wish you all and your families healthy and happy.
-Then of course followed by a greater prosperity.
-May we always meet on the internet night or day.

OPPORTUNITIES IN PACIFIC RIM COUNTRIES

During last year, we saw the Asian financial crisis hit its bottom and last year also witnessed the resurgence of economic progress in the area. Taiwan came out strong--quicker than anybody’s prediction--barely slowed by the biggest earthquake in recent memory. PRC looks not likely to devaluate its currency; ROK came out of its deep troubles with a growth rate of over 10% at the last quarter of 1999. Southeast Asian countries also made brilliant economic achievements.

What are the business opportunities in the area NOW?

a) More infrastuctures are needed by many countries in the region.
b) More investments are needed for the underdeveloped parts of certain countries.
c) Impact of Taiwan and PRC joining WTO this year: many service industries, trading opportunities will be open to outsiders for the first time.

As a result, many governments have made additional regulations granting more
facilities or privilaeges to investors.

This MILLENIUM YEAR really promises to give a thousand more opportunities
