Victory Christian Academy was started in the spring of 1998 with a newspaper ad ran by Mike and Jill Morgan. They asked all people in the McCook area who are interested in starting a Christian school to meet at the Library. It was immediately obvious that there was an interest and a need for such a school in McCook. Now was the hard part, making all the decisions needed to start a school. Who was to be the school board, what Bylaws were needed, what Articles of Incorporation to be filed, which curriculum, what should we have for a doctrinal position, where, etc. and etc.? The list got longer the more we met. The goal was to open by the fall of 1998, which meant meeting every other week for most of the summer.

Finally, by the first week of August we had a teacher willing to teach and a place to meet--the last two pieces had fallen into place. We were able to open on time. We started the 1998-99 school year in the First Christian Church building on August 31. We had three students to start the year, which soon grew to five. With different ages and learning abilities, Mrs. Heisz had her work cut out for her. We ended the year in May on 1999 with an awards banquet, where the students displayed their Spanish and sign language skills for everyone.

We spent the summer at the fairs and other events held in the area getting the word out that there is a Christian School in McCook. Our theme for the summer was the acronym of F.R.O.G. meaning Fully Rely On God.

We started the 1999-2000 school year with 9 students (!), tripling the number that we started out with the first year. God does things in his own time. We have since added two students, bringing our total to eleven. First Christian Church again provided us with facilities, but we are now close to maximum capacity at the west 1st facility. God has blessed us again!

We had a busy Spring with a Dinner Theater, Awards Banquet, and of course our official sign-up day in June. We feel that we had a successful year ending with the sign-up day ending with 11 students signed up the Lord blessed us again.

The Summer of 2000 has been a busy one for parents and students who have helped out with different fundraisers. We had a booth again at the Red Willow Co. Fair, we also participated in the Hitchcock Co. Fair. Within a week of the fairs we had our first annual garage sale with all of our fundraisers we were able to purchase the Spanish tapes that go with our curriculum. Praise the Lord!

We started the school year with 17 students enrolled, and we moved from our original site at 801 west 1st to 507 west 3rd. We now have a bigger site but we have an added blessing of a fenced in yard! The Lord has helped us through many things this year and we look forward to a wonderful future in the McCook area.
