My MVP and Cy Young are determined by the number of times a player appears as the player of the week. A tie-breaker for a pitcher is wins and for a batter is the OPS %. Also, at the end of the season give me your team MVP and Cy Young winner and your most underrated player on the Sox who had a big impact this year by e-mailing me. I will have a poll for each award if you do not want to e-mail your opinion. Thank You and keep visiting!!!

Players of the Weeks

May 28th - June 3rd

"Manny and the Lowe Rider"

What did they do? Manny went 8 for 26, a .308 batting average. He had 1 homerun and 2 bombs with 4 RBI. The Lowe Rider had 5 scoreless innings with 5 K's. He had 1 win and 2 saves.

My opinion? Manny had a decent week but the amazing thing was the two bombs he hit, one on Saturday and the blast on Sunday. The homerun on Sunday was the longest in Skydome history, an amazing 491 feet. Now to Lowe who is in a groove and is starting to pitch like the all-star he is, hopefully he will keep up the solid work.

May 21st - May 27th

"Nomo Mr. Nice Guy"

What did he do? Hideo Nomo had a great performance on Friday against the Blue Jays. He pitched a complete game, one-hit shut-out, striking out 14 and walked 0 Toronto batters. Nomo only faced 28 batters, the only baserunner was a 4th inning leadoff double by Shannon Stewart.

My opinion? He had better stuff on Friday than the no-hitter game he pitched earlier. He threw strikes, got ahead of batters and made a good hitting team look foolish on his split. He was truly unhittable, the only hit was a sharp double by Stewart to the left-field game, the pitch he hit was thought to be a curveball, the only one he threw. If only he could be more consistant than we would have a true number two starter. So far a 5-3 record and an ERA of 3.60 is not bad for the second pitcher in the Sox rotation. Imagine if he had great control, he would have multiple no-hitters in a single season, his stuff is that good.

May 14th - May 20th

"Var-Attack"

What did he do? Jason Varitek went 8 for 16, a .500 batting average. He hit 4 home runs, had 10 RBI and scored 4 runs. He was also named the AL player of the week.

My opinion? Where have you been, man? Finally, the power has exploded, the big guy is finally swinging the bat like a big guy. He is too strong of a player not to hit 20 home runs, this is the type of hitter we thought we had in Jason. Hopefully Tek will continue to hit well, someone other than Manny has to produce offensively. My choice for player of the week was going to be tough until Sunday when Varitek exploded for 3 home runs and 7 RBI. Also, hats off to Frank Castillo who was the co-player of the week. He pitched 12 innings and allowed only 1 unearned run, he let up only 8 hits, walked 4 and K'd 4.

May 7th - May 13th

"Manny Time"

What did he do? Manny went 9 for 21 with 7 walks, a .429 batting average. He had 4 bombs, 12 RBI and 7 runs scored. And also a hustle triple for the big slugger.

My opinion? It is getting redundant, Manny is the man, what else can be said, he is on pace for 201 RBI and 57 homers. He might not reach those numbers but 160 RBI and 40 plus homers are very possible. I think we can vote him MVP right now for the Red Sox and maybe even the league, maybe even the world. He is better than advertised, he is better than any one could imagine, Manny is a machine that will not stop.

May 1st - May 6th

"Pedro Is God"

What did he do? He pitched 15 innings, allowing only 7 hits and 4 walks to 18 K's. During the week he lowered is American League leading 1.80 ERA to 1.44.

My opinion? No comment needed, simply amazing but it was about time he got player of the week. As Pedro goes, the Sox go, its just the way it is, he is da man.

April 23rd - April 29th

"And Manny Continues ..."

What did he do? Manny went 10 for 26, a .385 batting average, he hit 3 bombs and drove in 10 RBI, also he scored 5 runs. It was a tough week for the Sox but Manny carried the offense along with Crazy Carl.

My opinion? He is on pace for 194 RBI, it probably won't happen but I think 160 is probable. And imagine when Nomar comes back (knock on wood), Manny will have more runners to drive in and better pitches to look at. The Sox struggled this weekend but Manny just keeps on an amazing pace. He finished his first month in a Red Sox uniform with a .408 BA, 9 HR and 31 RBI, he is probably baseball's player of the month, he is definitely the Red Sox player of the month.

April 16th - April 22nd

"Manny Ball"

What did he do? Manny went 13 for 28, a .464 BA, he hit 5 homers and had 8 RBI. Manny was a hitting machine throughout the week, especially against the Yankees, he hit three bombs and batted over .500 against the Yanks. Round 2 of the Moose vs. Manny goes to Manny once again. So far getting Manny is looking very good while Mike Mussina has struggled in pinstripes.

My opinion? If this keeps up, who knows, maybe a run at the Triple Crown. Manny is certainly hitting the ball and you don't hear any talk of when Manny is going back to the outfield. Manny is on a torrid pace, he leads the league in hits, batting average, RBI and is up there in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, walks and homers. He is half Man-NY and half Amazin. Imagine Manny and Nomar batting back-to-back later this season, it will be a very exciting lineup. What more can you ask for from Manny Ramirez?

April 9th - April 15th

"Manny Getting It Done"

What did he do? He batted over .400 with 7 RBI and a huge game winning hit against the Yankees and Mariano Rivera. Round one of Manny vs. Mussina, Manny gets the nod. It was a great home stand for Manny Ramirez and the Red Sox.

My opinion? This is why we got him, to produce and produce he has. Hopefully Manny will continue his success and imagine this, he hasn't even been hitting for power yet. What a tremendous hitter this guy is and it should be a exciting year with his bat in the lineup. Round two of Manny Ramirez against the Yanks happens next weekend and hopefully it will be as successful.

April 2nd - April 8th

"Hideo Nomo's No-No"

What did he do? How about this line, nine innings, eleven strikeouts, only three walks, no runs, and yes, no hits. A no-hitter for the newcomer, Hideo Nomo, what a nice start. He was simply dazzling, confusing the Oriole hitters with his fast ball and split. Truly amazing!

My opinion? What else can I say but way too go Nomo. Now, what does this mean, does this mean he will be shutting teams out every time out. The answer is no, Red sox fans tend to go crazy over everything, lets enjoy this great performance. And the next time he pitches in Fenway, give this young man a standing ovation, a long one.
