of Vidin
region

The town Vidin is situated in the most North-Western part of Bulgaria and is
placed on the river Danube , which is the north Bulgarian border
with Rumania and at the same time it is near the border with Yugoslavia
(Serbia). See the map.
The vineyards are situated at 12 - 15 km. North - North-West from Vidin
in a Declared Geographic Region "Novo selo". The terrain is
characterized with low sandy hills and is 100m. above the sea level. The region
has unique climate for North Bulgaria - extremely hot summer and
mild winter. The temperatures haven't fallen
down under -18°C at least for the last 50years . Spring frosts are very
rare. The soil
consists of more than 65-70% sand and provides excellent quality of
vineyards.
Since the ages of the tradesmen from Venice this region has been
well-known with strong in alcohol red wine , which is produced
from local variety Gamza
, and since the middle of XX century here have
found their second
motherland the world famous grapes varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
