Nothing touches a work of art so little as words of criticism. They always result in more or less fortunate misunderstandings. Things aren't all so tangible and sayable as people would have us believe; most experiences are unsayable, they happen in a space that no word has ever entered, and more unsayable than all the other things are works of art, those mysterious existences, whose life endures beside our own small, transitory life.
(Ranier Maria Rilke)

CLASSICAL MUSIC & ME

One of my favourite activities is listening to Classical Music, and Toronto has a wonderful Symphony Orchestra. This photo is of the Maestro Jukka Pekka Saraste, who comes to us from Finland, and is now in his fourth season with the T.S.O.

Saraste is also the principal conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony, and is famous for his interpretations of the works of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius.

In 1994 Saraste took over as Music Director, and he has been sited as the "Mick Jagger" of the classical music field. Under Saraste's leadership, the orchestra performed at Carnegie Hall back in March of 1996, and currently have a recording contract with Finlandia Records.

Music is very much a part of Saraste. His goal is to bring as many people into the symphony as possible- Especially Young People, and he currently lives with his family in Toronto.
