Dave Barry, Dave Barry Slept Here: A Sortof History of the United StatesDave Barry Slept Here

While this may not be his greatest work, it is a definate must read. He shows us "normal people" how much history really matters . . . and how purely evil the Hawley-Smoot Tariff was (even if we don't know the true definition of the Hawley-Smoot Tariff).

Having my best friend be a history major, I end up with these little tidbits of honest, useless history stuck in my head. The thing about this book is, the more history you know, the funnier the book is to read . . . and the more you know that nobody really cares about the American Revolution when important events, such as SuperBowl III have happened since.

Grade: B, would be higher if I hadn't read any of his other books first. This one is definately great, but, believe it or not, he's capable of better.

I read this book enroute to a European vacation, and I felt sorry for the rest of the people on the plane, being bored to death by movies dubbed from their original language and poisoned by the food, as I laughed my head off. While Barry goes away from his normal "booger-humor" a few times in the book (to crank out some very well written, provocative essays), the majority of the book would have had me rolling on the floor had I not been in a seat belt.

Grade: A very solid A, 'nuff said. You won't be disappointed when you read this (that is, if you can handle laughing so much that your sides hurt).

Well, as far as I'm concerned, this book lives up to it's title. By far, the funniest book I have ever read. Focusing on much of his older works, topics such as stupid dogs, vacation, music, and computers blend well with biting social commentary. Each article is superbly well written, and they flow nicely, with one "hit" followed by the next . . . usually there is some kind of tie between the two.

Grade: A+, never wanted to put it down.
