You Could Never Take Her From Me

Fables tell of a story
Of a mystifying love,
A love that could drive men to war,
That could force men to take their own lives.

I have known such a love,
A love beyond all comprehension.
Every thought, every action, every emotion
Was directed toward her.

Never before had I felt
The feelings I felt for her.
It wasn't that I enjoyed being around her,
But I needed her in my life.

And, oh, how she needed me!

She would not be seen,
Without my arms securely around her
She would not sing, with her voice so tender
Unless it was me that she was singing to.

She was my Psyche,
And I, her Cupid.
We existed as one person, one mind, one heart
In two separate bodies.

We had every intention,
To spend the rest of our waking lives
Together, in each others arms,
Singing each other to sleep.

But, in our lives of sunshine
A storm cloud harassed the horizon.
One day, when we needed each other the most
We were to never see each other again.

I remember when I heard that . . .
I ran, kicking, screaming, cursing,
There was nothing that could appease me . . .
She was gone.

To this day
I still have a longing
To see her again, to be with her again,
To make love the way only we could.

But it doesn't matter
How much I miss her,
For I know she misses me just as much
Even she is gone.

It's hard to believe
That she won't show her face
Or sing another song,
Something she did so well . . .

Yet, I know her
Better than anybody else ever could,
Her longing for me will keep her quiet
As only I knew how to listen to her.

I still picture her
Her face, outlined in a sunset
And when the wind blows softly at night
I still hear her voice.

And when I lay myself down
To a bed without her
I can still feel her with me,
Whispering in my ear.

As long as I can dream,
As long as I can think,
As long as I can remember,
You could never take her from me!
