Ode To a Friend

A shoulder to cry on,
It's all you've ever asked.
Yet, to have my gentle arms around you
Are what you really need.
They say that making love
Is what's truly divine in this world.
But I'd rather hear your soothing voice
At any time.
We've laughed, we've cried,
We've shared all of our lives.
In a world that doesn't lend itself to trusting,
I need you.
Know that I love you,
With everything that I have to offer,
And this is a bond that can never be broken,
By anybody.
And know that when I ask for
A shoulder to cry on,
It's to have your gentle arms around me,
That I really need.
