Nearsightedness, Farsightedness & Astigmatism

What is Farsightedness?

Farsightedness, or hyperopia is a condition where near objects appear blurred while distant objects are clear. This occurs when the eye is too short or the cornea curvature is too flat. Most people with this condition are able to drive without glasses but need reading glasses for close-up work.

What is Nearsightedness?

Nearsightedness, or myopia affects 25% of the North American population, and is particularly common among Asians. It is a condition where distant objects appear blurred while close objects are clear. This occurs because the eye is too long or the cornea curvature is too steep

What is Astigmatism?

Astigmatism occurs when the cornea is not spherical and is oval in shape. Traditionally these conditions are correctable only by glasses or contact lenses which bend light rays onto the retina, and keep distant object images into focus.
