Off the Tourist Path

Not only the great buildings and memorials are
witnesses of the rich history and culture

Many hidden and quiet places provide the city with a magic flair

Walk around in the "backyards" of St.Stefan's dome and you will be dipped into past centuries. Narrow little streets with heavy paving stones, passages through palais connecting the streets. Many buildings have historical legends or famous people of the past had lived there.

Many parks are inviting to sit down off the hustle and bustle, to forget that there is a big city around and to relax within an intelectual atmosphere. Such as Stadtpark, Votivpark, Rathhauspark, Burggarten or Volksgarten.

Or discover the "Prater" as the aristocratic hunting grounds and as a grand green area where one can walk kilometers and hours in absolute seclusion.

Maybe you want to honour your favourite glorious person of the past.

You can find them in Vienna's "Zentralfriedhof" (Central-Cemetary), another large green area and an interesting expression of the viennese relationship to death.
(Mozart's grave)

Back to the living visit the "Spittelberg" area in the 7th District. This was the artist's quarter and - among others - the place where young ladies walked slower to make their ways a bit faster...
Today it is still a pitoresque quarter with a huge restaurant and bar scene and occasionally there are art flea-markets.
