DARBY TENCH

Darby Tench

 

Darby Tench was one of four American singers chosen to participate in a cultural exchange recital at the Xi'an Conservatory in China. She now appears regularly at the Mount Washington Hotel and Resort in Bretton Woods, NH, where she performs opera, bossa nova, and American jazz standards. She has appeared as Stephen Dedalus' mother in Roger Rudenstein's operatic adaptation of James Joyce's Ulysses and as the Beggar Woman in Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. She currently performs with the classical trio The Three Sopranos out of Portsmouth, NH. The recipient of teaching awards from universities across the country, Miss Tench is the author of more than a dozen articles on Italian opera and literature. She holds a Ph.D. in Italian from Yale University.
