Removing Symbols:
"I use Goof Off. It works real good at removing symbols and over makes." ~Baby Moondancer
"Acetone nail polish remover works well for removing glitter." - Up, up, and Away
"As far as customizing, gel paint remover/stripper froma hardware store will wipe off any symbol in an instant. Be sure to wash it off the pony well!" - The Delaneys
Symbol Painting for Customs:
"Just a thin brush and acrylic paints!" -*Stockings*
"Try Speedball Painters paint pens. I use white for my ponies eyes and for touching up first tooths." -*Stockings*
"Use acrylic craft paint that you can get from Wal-Mart or anywhere with a craft department. Apple Barrel or Folk Art paint is what I've been using. To keep the dried paint from scratching or chipping off, put a good coat of clear coat craft paint over any area you used the acrylic and it protects really well." -~Flutter~
Body Painting for Customs:
"Well, Princess Taffeta got some awesome results using silver spray paint for one of her custom ponies." -Up, up, and Away
"Spray paint is great if you want to customize, just be careful to cover the hair well. If you just need paint to enhance regular color, the Rag Shop is an excellent place~also try Hobby Shop if it's in your area." -Happy Hopper
"I haven't used this, so I don't know if it works, but if you want a sparkly look I'd say use sparkly clear nail polish. [maybe use it over the spray paint]" -Baby Forever
"NOT NAILPOLISH! EEEKKSS! A chemical in Nail polish can [only certain kinds] cause Pony Melt-down! But you can try it if you want... Just Make sure it isn't directly ON the Pony. I use fabric sparkly paint, like tulip brand." -Baby Skyflier
"I'll go with that...although the custom of mine in question was an icky pony to begin with. Now I only use Nail polish if I've sprayed the pony to begin with...with plastic friendly paint." -Taffeta
"Nail polish probably isn't a good idea -- it wasn't made to last forever, so it usually chips or breaks down after awhile. Sparkle fabric paint works better, but I've found that it makes the symbol too raised sometimes -- it's difficult to get it completely flat. Microglitter works best for me. It's a powdery form of glitter that can be found in craft stores. I paint the symbol with acrylic paint, then when it's dry I spread a thin coat of clear acrylic sealer over the symbol, and dust the still-wet sealer with the microglitter. It's not identical to "real" MLP glitter symbols, but it's very close, and pretty in its own right, too. :)" -Lady Minty
Hair Dying for Customs/Touching up faded hair:
"Have you tried using Saran wrap around the ponies? I don't know if that will work, but it might..." (To keep dye off pony) -T. Jenner Gail
"What I recomend most of all is actual hair dye... I dyed my custom's (still working on it) hair with the dark purplish/red dye I was using on my own hair. I did get it all over her body but it washed right off with water when it came time to rinse. The color didn't come out as dark as I had wanted...dying plastic hair is different than dying human hair...but over all, that pony has nicer, softer, less tangly hair than she did before I dyed it." -Kris
"Use masking tape and plastic wrap to cover pony up to roots of hair. Then dye. This should prevent dying the pony body." -Up, Up, and Away
"To re-pink faded hair, use white vinegar with a few drops of red food coloring. Dip the hair in; I use a q-tip to get it close to the neck. Be sure to proctect the fuzz on so-softs because they will pick up the color as well. It does not stain plastic if wiped off. The color will appear a bit dark, but just lay the pony on paper towels and let it dry. When dry, rinse it out with water, and dry again, it should be nice and pink." -The Delaneys
"I've never tried, but Easter-egg dye formula would probably work if you held the hair in it long enough. That dye doesn't come out of many materials, believe me on that part!" -Gyl. E. Bene
"Well the hair can be done many ways- but the easiest is by a fabric marker found at any craft store. Water proof, non-toxic and in many colors! I did Glow's hair and she is 100% mint now!!" -Aine
"I use red food coloring...you have to be careful...make sure u wear rubber gloves, and drop on the color full strenght right onto the base of the hair...u can comb it thru or use your fingers...after a while, rinse it out...u will be left with a little pinkness in the hair...u might have to do it a couple times to get uniformity in the hair...it works...i used it on my SS Whindwhistler...she has pink hair now!" -Baby Bows
"Katjianna a friend of mine used non-sugared coolaid too. That works and is perment." -Aine
"I heard putting highlighter in it, leaving it in for a week or so till it dried then rinsing it would leave it a nice soft pink. never tried personally though.." -Baby Flicker
"That's the method I always use. I color the hair with the highliter until the hair is basically saturated with the color, then let it sit for anywhere from a day to a week depending on how dark I want the color, and then I carefully rinse the excess color out under cool running water. The most important thing is to be very careful not to get the highliter ink on the pony itself. The highliter goes on terribly bright, but when it rinses it matches the original pink quite well." -Lady Minty
"Everyone always says to use rit dye to dye a ponies hair" -flutterfly
De-fuzzing SoSofts (fuzz removal):
"I've never removed flocking myself, but a friend of mine uses paint thinner. She says that it works better than nail polish remover (which gets gunked up with the glue-I know this from my experience with customizing ponies with glitter glue symbols). I've seen her deflocked so-softs and they look great!" -Baby Rainribbon
Covering up holes (where horns have been removed/ripped off):
"Maybe you could get a large pretty fake gem to cover the hole. You could attach it with plastic bonding glue that is used on model cars (and can be found where model cars are sold), super glue, or hot glue." -Up, up, and Away
