The "Quartetto di Fiesole", founded in 1988, received is name from Piero Farulli, the violist of the "Quartetto Italiano".
The Quartet studied with Piero Farulli and Andrea Nannoni at the "Scuola di Musica di Fiesole" and at the "Accademia Chigiana" in Siena.
They studied Slavic music with Milan Skampa of the "Smetana Quartet" and attended a Master Class held by Sigmund Nissel of the "Amadeus Quartet".
In June 1990, by unanimous decision of the jury, they were awarded 1st Prize in the "International Rotary Competition for String Quartets" in Cremona.
In August 1992 they received the "Diploma d'Onore" at the "Accademia Musicale Chigiana" and, as winners of the "A.R.A.M. Competition" in Rome, they held a series of concerts abroad.
In october 1996 they won 1st Prize at the International Chamber Music Competition "Premio Vittorio Gui" in Frorence, as well as the Audience Award.
The "Quartetto di Fiesole" has made concert tours in Russia, the USA, France, Germany, Switerland, Poland and Norway, (where they also held a chamber music seminar).
They have played in important cities such as Budapest, Prague, Warsaw, Vienna, Hamburg, Bremen, Paris, Minsk, Milan, Turin, Roma, Florence and others.
They have also played in many prestigious Festivals such as Tanglewood and Newport Music Festival in the United States and others important European Festivals.
Their performances have met with enthousiastic audiences and critical acclaim.
The "Quartetto di Fiesole" has collaborated with Maria Tipo, Piero Farulli, Andrea Lucchesini and Pietro de Maria.
In 1994 on Goffredo Petrassi 90th birthday, the Quartet was invited by the
"Accademia Nazionale di S.Cecilia" to play Petrassi's "Quartetto per Archi"
(1958) in the presenze of the composer at the Auditorium della
Conciliazione in Rome.
In the same year they played for the President of the Italian
Republic at the Quirinal Palace in Rome.
The "Quartetto di Fiesole" records for Natinal Radio and Television networks in Italy, Switzerland and France.
They have made their first Compact Disc of music by Mendelssohn and Malipiero for the "FRAME" label.
The "Quartetto di Fiesole" are the Artist in Residence at the University of Florence.
