Hi, Patrick!
"Good music; good food; fine people; pleasant surroundings." I'll get my application in soon for the second camp. Looking forward to seeing you all again.----

Let the Music Begin

(...continued from page 2)

Well we did not need to worry about people not showing up! Registration morning dawned bright and cool, and yes, everyone who had registered arrived. Introductions were made. Cottages and rooms were assigned. Luggage and instruments unpacked and the music making began.

We set out to make a lot of music and that we did. We played in organized groups to prepare for our public concert on Saturday evening and then in impromptu groups reading new music or old favorites. Everyone brought music along.

Participants included four Clarinets, two Oboes, four Flutes, two French Horns, two Bassoons, one Saxophone and two Pianists. Some players doubled on other instruments and one clarinet player also had a C Clarinet. The group was well matched in musical ability from intermediate to advanced players. We enjoyed reading the pieces we had heard performed by professional groups, even if we weren't quite perfect.

Each morning and afternoon we met as a group to rehearse the pieces we had chosen to perform at the concert. Parts were doubled in most cases, and as dictated by the piece, players would trade off or play in unison.

Speaking of play there was more than enough time for everyone to enjoy other activities as well. These included boating on the Lake of the Ozarks, swimming and tennis at the Resort, and even some shopping at the outlet mall in Osage Beach!

One special activity that we did together was eating. And we did a lot of that! Each morning started with a continental breakfast, except for Sunday, when we had a catered full breakfast. Every evening saw us being further stuffed with various goodies. And, in between these two times it seems that there was nearly always something to nibble on somewhere.
