Patrick H. CLAFFY - New York Infantry Volunteers, Company D, 20th and 80th Regiments

Enlisted in Jan. 1865. Preceding enlistment, lived in Troy, Cohoes, Fort Ann & Glenn Falls as a tailor. Discharged at Portsmouth, VA, Feb. 1, 1866. Since Feb. 1866, lived at Glenn Falls, Fort Ann, Whitehall, NY and Fairhaven, VT; also Rodney, Ontario and Windsor as a tailor. Born in Ireland around 1836 to 1840, as the son of James & Mary Claffy. On Oct. 3, 1877 in Ontario, Canada, married Sarah WINTERS, dau. of John & Catherine Winters. Patrick died in Windsor, Canada on Sept. 20, 1889, leaving no children. Sarah was last paid pension benefit in June of 1894 (due to her death).

One Hundredth Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment

Following is "a list of officers and enlisted men of the company recruited in Washington County for the Round Head."

"The 'Round Head Regiment,' designated as the One Hundredth in the Pennsylvania Line, was raised in August, 1861, in the counties of Washington, Westmoreland, Beaver, Lawrence, Butler, and Mercer, 'from among the descendants of the Covenanters and of the men who had followed Cromwell, whose leading characteristics had been a devotion to the principles of liberty of person and conscience.'" The date of muster in (MI) is August 27, 1861, except as noted; the date of muster Out (MO) date is July 24, 1865 unless otherwise stated.
