Every spring, there was a music festival at Lancut, a nearby town with a lovely palace and grounds. Peace Corps recommended to our schools that volunteers be given Fridays off ostensibly to allow us travel time to Warsaw for official business. This also provided those of us in the southeast with the welcome opportunity to make day trips to Krakow which was only 2 hours away by train. Krakow was and continues to be my favorite city in Poland.
