Orchestre Lyrique et Choeurs de Radio-France, Jean Pierre Marty cond.
Manon Lescaut is the first of several operas on the subject, composed at a time when Auber was already 74 years old. There actually are two recordings on CD in existence, but the above is the only one I am familiar with. The music is thoroughly enjoyable, but not on a par with Auber's more youthful works. In addition to the famous "Eclat de rire", the entire third act, and especially the touching final duet should be cited. Zabi also has a striking aria in that act.
