This is the front entrance to John and Nancy Slaton's house built c. 1835. Notice the detail of the moulding. Like so many places, it has withstood ravages of time, weather, The Great Depression, wasp nests, trespassers, and undergrowth of jungle proportions. I was graciously invited to see it with two of the finest gentlemen I met in Prattville, George Walthall and Frank Lamar, pictured here. George's wife is my fellow Slaton descendant, Lib Walthall; Frank is also a Slaton descendant. Since Nancy's death in 1882, this property has been in Lib's and Frank's families most of the time. |
