1995

"A Drum Corps Fan's [and member's] Dream"
This year will be remembered as one the the best in Madison Scouts history.  The show, expanding on ideas from the previous year, was again all Spanish music.  Our opener, entitiled "El Toro Caliente," was an adaptation of various Spanish themes written by our arranger, Scott Boerma, that just plain SMOKED!  Next was part of Joaquin Rodrigo's "Concerto de Aranjuez," a classical guitar concerto that was heart-wrenchingly beautiful.  Our third tune was another original composition that promised to have the crowd "dancin' in the aisles."  "La Danza Pasillo" (translated "The Aisle Dance") was based on salsa music, and featured each section of the hornline, drumline, and colorguard.  Our closer brought back an even more powerful rendition of Bill Holman's "Malaga" from the previous year.  It was truly an unforgetfull show.

The corps that year is hard to explain.  Every single time we took the field, whether it was in rehersal or a performance, everyone gave it all their effort.  We could turn on our rehearsal mode like a switch.  The hornline was unbelievable.  The Madison Scouts philosophy is to get better every time we take the field, and in 1995, we truly lived that philosophy.  We never took a step backward, never had a bad performance.  That particular gathering of talented and hard-working men created the most incredible ensemble I have ever seen.  Anyone who had the opportunity to see the show live knows what I am talking about.

"And now...the longest field entrance in DCI!!" This is how we entered the field in '95 Also called, "the show before the show." On the left is a good shot of what we LOVE to do most... PARK AND BLOW!!

Drum corps just wouldn't be drum corps without hot, sweaty bodies. Here are two of our soprano soloists, John Schipper and Edwin Bogert, during our final run-through for the 1995 season.  The Madison Scouts are envied by many for the number of free days we get. Here's Greg Guffey, contra player, kickin' back and enjoying a well deserved day off.

These are the top six placing corps at DCI Finals in 1995 (Rich Stadium in Buffalo, NY) at retreat. If you think this is a breath-taking sight, you should hear hear TWELVE hornlines play "America the Beautiful" in unison.  On the left is a shot of the Madison Scouts corps director, Scott Stewart, and me after DCI Finals in '95. Check out the shirt on this guy! When all the other directors are dressed in suits for this night, good ol' Scott is sporting his "Relaxed, yet LOUD look."
