Puccini's Turandot

Turandot was one of the first operas that I came to know well. I came to the work through recordings and I've still only seen the opera live once (see reviews). I still remember checking out the LPs from the Bozeman Public Library. I think I probably owe my love of opera to that recording, even though it's not a critically acclaimed recording (Ricciarelli, Domingo, Hendricks, Raimondi, Karajan). I loved it immediately...

Cherubini's Médée

My love of the Cherubini opera is a more recent happening. I had known a few of Medea's arias from Callas excerpt recordings, and I owned the Barstow Opera Finales CD, but it was a dress rehearsal at Opera North in Leeds which really introduced me to the real Médée (in English, but at least it wasn't the Lachner version! - see reviews). Since then I've acquired 2 Callas recordings, 2 recordings in French, and luckily the Opera North performance was broadcast on Radio 3 (although it didn't live up to my memories of the dress rehearsal).

More operas coming soon (?)
