The Everest base camp trek

Part 12:  Lobuche to Gorak Shep

Starting to climb from Lobuche to Gorak Shep.

At a certain point one realizes that one has been actually walking on a glacier covered with a thick layer of mud.

Small "pools" of glacial milky water.

Strange plants resembling aquatic reef.

A red boulder on the along side the dusty road.

And finally, Kalla Patar (black rock in Nepalese) is seen. It is a small (elev. 5500m.) hill and is viewed against the huge Pumori. This panoramic view is obtained from pasting three photographs together.

Gorak Shep (elev. 5300m) as seen from the road with Kalla Patar and Pumori.
