ManBREAK -
One Of The Kerrang! Buzz Bands Of The Week

Liverpudlian aggro-rockers set to crack America
TO PARAPHRASE Skunk Anansie...yes, ManBREAK are f**king political. A Scouse five-piece led by fast-talking frontman Swindelli, ManBREAK are labelmates of Skunk and are already tagged bu Kerrang! as one of the best new rock bands of '97. One listen to the band's first album 'Come and See' (due for release early next year) will tell you why; it's a supercharged mix of rock, pop and hip-hop and it's got the balls and attitude and streetwise suss to put many of today's so-called punk bands to shame.
Swindelli is going to be a very big star. You can't fail to be impressed by the man's intelligence and lust for life. He talks fast and he talks tough.
"Football's for f**king losers!" he spits when Kerrang! questions him about the song 'Kop Karma' and the Liverpool FC hat worn by guitarist Snaykee on the CD cover. "If people didn't think about football all the time, they might work out a way of getting a better standard of living."
Mention New Labour and Swindellli is equally outspoken.
"Business as usual, isn't it? they're just following the financial guidelines set down by the Tories. There's no attempt to redistribute wealth in this country by taxing the rich. Labour just has this veneer of acceptability. In a nutshell," he adds with a mirthless laugh, "New Labour is a load of f**king bollocks, but it's still better than the Tories."
ManBREAK take their name from a British government project carried out in the 1950s, where soldiers were exposed to chemical weapons and then tested for after-affects on an assault course cruelly dubbed "The Manbreak".
The band have just toured US arenas supporting Live. Asked to sum up his music, Swindelli is characteristically honest, "It's typical white-boy rock with a bit of stealing from great black music. I admire The Beatles for their creativity and their productivity, and I also love hip-hop from 1982-1996 - NWA, Public Enemy, the lot. Hip-hop is mesmerising, it's irreverent, big, brash, it says 'f**k-you'."
ManBREAK are a rock band with the same 'f**k-you' attitude. You'll love 'em.
