A CD to celebrate 150 years of Clusonese band life, running through the historical tradition of our authors from past centuries up to today. We start with the band transcription of a church sonata by great Clusonese Giovanni Legrenzi, composed in 1669, followed by a symphonic poem by the contemporary composer Claudio Mandonico, inspired by that same sonata.
The XIX, magical century for what regards music, is remembered with the March for Sultan Abdul Medjid by Gaetano Donizetti, an original band composition which has almost completely been neglected in Italy and is here for the first time CD-recorded.
A few decades later, two pieces by great organist Vincenzo Petrali: march "Orobia" and galop "Spensieratezza", composed for whole band and never more played in contemporary times.
The XX century is opened by the march "Clusone", composed by never-forgotten M° Rocco Giudici in 1959, while the valley folk-song tradition is represented by Claudio Mandonico's ample symphonic esposition entitled "Quattro Canzoni Bergamasche" (Four Songs from Bergamo), inspired by old folk songs found at Bondo di Colzate, Bergamo.
The last three pieces of this collection are an homage to three among the most important bandistic schools in Europe, with a little -but singnificant- choice from the best contemporary production by foreign authors: "Southfield" by English Trevor Sharpe, "Alternances" by Belgian Andrč Waignein, "My friends from Morava" by Czech composer Pavel Stanek. This last piece is the recording of Brescia National Contest in 1993, where Banda Giovanni Legrenzi placed first before fourteen competiting bands.
