Cassie's Stories

Cassie wrote these stories around the age of 12. At that time she wanted to be a writer and illustrator of children's books. She's now 18 and has changed her plans and wants to become a singer. She definitely has the talent to do whatever she would like to do, but then, I am speaking from a mother's perspective, which is sometimes biased. There is also a spattering of her poems throughout the site; some of them have been published in poetry books. I hope you enjoy.

The Answer Fairy

Once there were five girls by the names of Cassie, Rachel, Ashleigh, Trini and Winnie. I'm going to tell you about the the time they went hiking in the woods.

Cassie, Rachel, Ashleigh, Trini and Winnie had agreed to go hiking in the woods. They all met at the edge of the woods one beautiful Saturday morning in early spring. Rachel made sure everyone had what they needed and they set off.

The girls came to a tree with a lot of writing engraved in it. The writing went all the way up the tree but it didn't make any sense. It had words like boodernonageedaa and lynxepooser.

Ashleigh started climbing up the tree, reading the words out loud as she climbed.

"Boodernonageedaa,
lynxepooser,
pick a peck a pickled pappies
say mona mone
say ming
housermax upside round
Mesatis lik lim lam!

All of a sudden, a genie appeared. The genie asked them what their wishes were, but the girls could do nothing but stare.

Finally Trini found her voice. "Um, ahhh, how about a, I don't know, a.... pair of really cool shoes!"

The girls hears a sort of swooshing sound and the wish was granted.

Winnie said that it was a waste of a wish but they had one more wish so Cassie wished she could fly. The genie disappeared with a swoosh and Cassie jumped. She started to float. She floated to the top of the tree and found a little weird shaped, red, gold and purple thing and brought it down. It was shaped like a banana with an orange in it.

The other girls exclaimed all in one breath, "Wow, what is it?!?!"

Cassie told the girls that she didn't know. She shook it, smashed it against her knee and kept on saying, "What is it? What is it?"

Just then, a voice came from within it saying, "I am an answer fairy. I answer all questions."

The girls were awed. They started to walk home.

"What way is it?", Rachel asked.

Nobody knew. The girls started to walk one way. They came up to a hill and climbed up it. From the top they could see for miles around. Trini looked back the way they had been travelling. She groaned. They had been walking the wrong way!

They turned around and started to walk home. They arrived home after a couple of hours and Cassie put the answer fairy on a shelf. Every time someone had a question, they could ask the answer fairy from then on.

Shadows

A shadow of a couple
Holding hands, in the night.
Connected, with no seams,
On a backdrop of streetlight.

Two shadows separating,
From love's shadow unbroken.
Two hands letting go,
Leaving behind no token.

One shadow glides away,
Swallowed by night's black.
One shadow left alone,
Reaches sadly, then turns its back.

Each shadow goes its own way,
Chooses its own direction.
Once, a single shadow,
Now two, with no connection.
