By Robert Farley (cl_kaulana) http://www.oocities.org/~cl_kaulana/ | cl_kaulana@oocities.com http://www.straussfestival.com -- Strauss Festival of Elk Grove, Inc., is a group from Elk Grove, California, which is marking its 12th year celebrating the music and the man, Johann Strauss Jr. A non-profit organization, SFEG, Inc., nevertheless has a grade-A website, with plenty of information about the composer, photos of the group's celebrations of the past, information on their upcoming celebrations, as well as first-class links to Austrian sites with updated schedules of events. Though most of them are in German, some of the pages have English counterparts. A couple of links to take special note of are the Austrian National Tourist Office on Strauss (http://www.austria-tourism.at/personen/strauss/index.html.en) and the Christopher Kranyak site. The Austrian site has a beautiful violin-playing statuette that is worth the download time. The rest of the site is equally exquisite, mostly in German, but very complete where Strauss is concerned. Kranyak, who has a featured page at Vienna Strasse 7074, is the featured performer at the 1998 Strauss Festival. Also listed on the Strauss Festival site (they've got all the decent links) is the Bob January site at http://www.bobjanuary.com/sfamily.htm. He's got a great number of pictures of Strauss, an overwhelmingly complete list of Strauss recording information, and some pretty good links to international Strauss societies. http://www.pukkie.demon.nl/rieu/jsuk.htm -- Some pictures and history of the Strauss family excerpted from the Encyclopedia Britannica. Good, if you don't have the encyclopedia. Has music, too. LabelArt -- Here's a slightly confusing, but large site in GeoCities/Vienna that opens up the world of Vienna through many avenues. I'd recommend the non-frames versions since the developer does not have GeoGuides. |
