A Grotrian-Steinweg Parlor Grand
5'8" M170,647 Polished Ebony circa 1907 rebuilt and refinished
$14,900
The upstairs at Beethoven's contains a lot of very interesting pianos, many with fascinating stories. This piano has a story concerning it too. It used to belong to the famous wife of the famous Philippine dictator, Ferdinand Marcos. That's right, this piano at one time belonged to Amelda Marcos, the woman who had 6,000 pairs of shoes. This piano happened to be located in their Manhattan apartment rather than in Manila. Standing next to this nice little piano is the owner of Beethoven Pianos, Carl Demler, a true gentleman and our host on this tour. We swapped Marcos stories. But this piano is a genuine Grotrian Steinweg. For those who may not know the significance, Grotrian was the original other half of Steinway. They have made pianos in Branschweig, Germany for as long as Steinway has made pianos in New York. There are similarities and differences. Grotrians have something in common with a Bechstein and share something of the Steinway, somewhere in between the two. They are fairly rare in America. This piano doesn't have a sostenuto pedal. It has a lovely tone and very responsive action typical of Grotrians.
