Austrian Surfing Music
For those who would like to listen to some Real Audio while visiting Vienna Online, we present CL Florian's "Austrian Surfing Music." The fourth installment is "Silent Night." This famed Christmas carol was created by Joseph Mohr (lyrics) and Franz Gruber (music) and first performed on Christmas Eve, 1818, in Oberndorf, Austria. This is a special recording (1971) of the original melody (in contrast to the popular version) in three different arrangements. More info in Florian's Silent Night article in this issue.
The performers are all folk-musicians from the Salzburg area, including the Tobi Reiser Ensemble, the Salzburger Volksliedchor, and CL Florian, who sings the baritone part in the first verse, and plays the organ for the second arrangement.
