For those who would like to listen to some Real Audio while visiting Vienna Online, we present CL Florian's "Classical Surfing Music."

Our featured artist for this month is Vincent Ranallo, a French-Canadian lyric baritone. You can hear him sing an art song entitled die Krähe (the crow) from the song cycle "die Winterreise" (the winter journey) by Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828). In this live recording you might notice the unusually thin sound of the piano: it is a replica of a fortepiano as it was used in the early 19th century.

singer Vincent RanalloYou can peruse Vincent Ranallo's homepage in three languages: English, French, and Italian. He's working on a German version as well. Vincent graduated from the Montreal conservatoire in 1994 and sings with many choirs and orchestras both in Quebec and France. Next month he will perform "die schöne Müllerin," the other big song cycle by Franz Schubert.

"Die Winterreise" is a cycle of 24 dramatically dark songs. It is normally sung without intermission and lasts about 70 minutes. The emotional interpretation of Schubert songs poses a very special challenge for any singer.

Would you like to submit your musical talents as Classical Surfing Music? This is not a contest, just a showcase of broad talent. If you are a composer, conductor, vocalist, instrumentalist, make music with a group or alone, amateur or professional, here is your chance for extra exposure!
Simply email Florian for any questions or with the URL of your file, and he'll take it from there.
