Support your local opera star with a shrine
Why make a shrine? What is a shrine, first of all? My dictionary attaches great significance to shrines, calling them places for depositing sacred relics, such as the bones of saints. Another meaning is a place where devotion is paid to a saint or deity. That's probably the closest to the definition of the places you'll find dedicated to anyone and everyone on the Internet, many of them about people no one has ever heard of, unless they happened to be there when it happened. The shrine I once had up for my wife is an example. (I am still devoted to my wife, but the shrine is no more.)

Jose van Dam
Teresa Michalowski features a great singer in her web page devoted to Jose Van Dam.
A native of Westchester County New York, Michalowski's site was created out of a "great amount of respect for Jose van Dam. ... I feel that he is not well advertised, and I wanted more people to become aware about him," she explained. "He is what my father would call a 'singer's singer,' someone who is interested more in the actual art and music than in the money or fame.
"Jose van Dam has done so much for me, has given me more than he can ever imagine. He has brought me joy and love through his singing. I figured the least I could do was create a site in his honor."
And that is a great reason to build a shrine.
Sites featured in "Visiting Vienna" get to sport the lively graphic at the right, denoting that they have indeed been featured in Vienna Online's site spotlighter. Winners also get a link on the author's list of visitations at Great Sites/Visiting Vienna. But you'll not be written about if somebody doesn't bring you to our attention. If your site is good enough for mention, or if you know of one that is, write to
Robert at cl_kaulana@oocities.com and let him know about it.
