Reflective-note
Writing
reflective-note is required for the students who take CALL (Computer
Assisted for Language Learning) course,
including me, in order to complete final projects. In my opinion, this CALL
course, overall is more concerned to the detailed implementation of the
principles and practices of designing a class meeting using CALL approaches,
that means the teacher will use technology, such as, computer with internet
access and other kinds of software as the main tool in teaching-learning
process.
Designing
a class meeting using CALL approaches is not as easy as we think because we
have to evaluate the website used for the materials. It should meet the
criteria of appropriateness and class condition. I faced problem in finding the
suitable materials for the students. Since the materials in the internet
overall are for EFL, i have to approximate in what levels those materials are
appropriate for ESL. Moreover, good materials will contain interesting texts,
enjoyable activities which engage the learners’ thinking capacities,
opportunities for learners to use their existing knowledge and also the content
which both teacher and learner can cope with.
Furthermore,
through this course, i also learned about creating a personal website, that i
have never dealt with it before. It was fun, particularly when i have to design
pages of my personal website. But, it turn to be complicated when i uploaded
the files, the pictures was missing. The appearance was not like i expected to
do. I was really feel curious. But then,
i tried to follow the instructions in handout. And finallly i was able to solve
my problem.
Next,
i also joined one of the most popular mailing lists in the field of teaching
English as a Second Language (TESL) and CALL and monitor the email postings
from its members, and then observing it. The task was submiting a summary of
certain topics in the emails that interest me. For me, the difficulty was the
first time i tried to join mailing-list. I should try several times to register
until i got the confirmation email. Since we cannot join it unless we get the
confirmation email from the moderator (either a person who is responsible for
the subscription or an automated program).
In
my conclusion, the skills or lessons I got from CALL course are not only useful
for now. I’m sure it will give benefits for my future. Because, in my opinion,
being a teacher today is not only has capability in teaching, but having a
broad knowledge of technology and able to applying it in teaching.
