Verkko-opetuksella ja -oppimisella tarkoitetaan tietoverkon hyödyntämistä opetuksessa ja oppimisessa.
Oppiminen mielletään verkko-pohjaisessa oppimisympäristössä rajoituksista vapaaksi toiminnaksi, joka voi tapahtua miten, missä ja milloin tahansa oppijan tarpeiden mukaan.
Verkko-oppimisen lähtökohtana on siis tarjota koulutusta, joka joustaa opiskelijan elämäntilanteen mukaisesti.
