LOOK FOR SIGNS FROM GOD
Does God give us signs as to what His wishes are? Yes. He is
furnishing signs to everyone. Some are obvious and others are
subtle. It is the subtle signs that are the most valuable to us
as we deal with the everyday problems of our lives. It takes
practice, trust, and alertness to notice the subtle signs. Just
because we don't see them does not mean that God is not giving
them.
Look for God's signs:
- Jesus is a sign. We will not see God because no one has seen
the Father except Jesus. But God manifests Himself to us in
the body of Jesus. We can experience God through Jesus and
the many miracles Jesus gave us. If we heed Jesus and His
teachings, these signs are enough to give us direction for
our lives. His teachings are our roadmap to paradise. At
every intersection in our lives, He has posted signs for us
to follow, telling us in what direction we should turn.
- The Holy Spirit is a sign. What describes God's love for us
better than His willingness to send His spirit to dwell
within the heart of every believer? The Spirit waits in
readiness to give guidance and direction for our lives.
- The Bible is a sign. Unless we spend time reading, studying,
and contemplating scripture, we cut ourselves off from all
the wisdom that God wants to impart to us. With the power of
the Holy Spirit, the words in print come alive with
understanding of God's word.
- Creation is a sign. All that surrounds us is part of God's
creation. In the infinite interconnectedness of creation and
in His attention to the most minute details of nature, God
shows us His plan for all of mankind as well.
- Fellow Christians are a sign. God uses individuals to share
his wisdom and insight. You can read about the prophets in
the Old Testament, the apostles of the New Testament, and
mature Christians in this age who are attuned to the Holy
Spirit.
- Beware. Those who look for signs from any source other than
the Holy Spirit or Jesus' teachings will be disappointed.
Those who look for guidance from fortune tellers,
astrologers, psychics, and the like, are to be pitied. God
says they're wrong and looks with disfavor on such conduct.
There is no need to look to the sky for a spectacular sign;
it won't come. There is no need to seek a sign in world
events; it's not there. The signs for our lives come from our
God, through Jesus and His Holy Spirit. (Read Psalm 121.)
- Results: When we finally get to the point where we know that
everything comes from God, then we will enjoy life more. God
gives us all good things: knowledge, wisdom, and, most
valuable of all, love. These are the things that God is made
of.
