BE ONE OF GOD'S BEAUTIFUL WOMEN...OR MEN
You are probably familiar with the "Proverbs 31 Woman": the
Biblical model of perfection. Too often we are overwhelmed with
her abilities since they seem to show up our own shortcomings
rather than inspire us to be like her. The key to her success was
that she knew how to have a joyous heart as she approached the
many tasks of running a household and a business.
You, too, can be a joyous woman - or man - in your approach to
life:
- Pray daily. Pray for those you serve and for yourself. Pray
specifically about your attitude toward your work. Because
God listens and responds, prayer changes things. Our Lord can
turn your heart into a fountain of joy. In fact, prayer can
give you the God-given perspective that lifts your duties out
of the physical realm and transports them to the spiritual
realm.
- Recite Scripture. Make a list of the verses right out of
God's Word that encourage you to be joyous in your work.
Start with, "This is the day which the Lord has made; I will
rejoice and be glad in it." Memorize uplifting scriptures and
repeat them to yourself throughout your day.
- Do your work as unto the Lord. When things really seem
unbearable and your perspective becomes skewed, remember that
the What, the Who, and the Why of your work is God Himself.
- Tackle your tasks energetically, creatively, and joyfully.
Whatever chore you face, take on the challenge and do it with
all your might. Look for ways to make the most mundane,
thankless job one of pleasure. Look at your work with
anticipation rather than dread, seeing all of life as a
challenge to serve the Lord.
- Look for the benefits. Look for the benefits that you receive
as you serve others. This can lighten the burden of your
tasks.
- Pause and rest. There is nothing wrong with a well-earned
rest. God warns against idleness and a sluggardly lifestyle,
but He never condemns our physical need for rest. Try a nap.
- Value each day. You will achieve the excellence of God's
beautiful people one day at a time, while willingly doing
your work one task at a time.
